The clever thing about this scene is that the audience absolutely agrees with Anne and her private disdain for these pretentious people, but the way Meryl explains it, by the end of this scene, the audience will have convinced themselves that Anne is the one who should be ashamed.

"From a pile of stuff."
I love how scathing she is without ever raising her voice or putting stress on individual words.

I am not a fashionista, but I think Streep explains very well in this segment how fashion impacts the lives of everyone, even those who do not consider themselves fashionable.

What really hit me about this scene is that it tore down the idea that had been presented of "Fashion people are stupid". Miranda doesn't just flow with trends like water, no, she knows their ups and downs and how the styles grow and change. It was a sharp smackdown of that idea and it gave Miranda much needed depth and power in the movie. She shifts from pretentious monster to an incredibly influential being in the larger world. Andy is in Miranda's domain, and she has to respect that.

Wonderful scene, a great lesson in how to shrivel another person without once raising your voice or losing your dignity.

That sizzle at the end was Andy getting roasted.

God, such a brilliant performance. And Stanley Tucci's reactions shots were perfect.

"This Stuff?" Then her male assistant is like "now you done it" Great and funny scene!

I may be in the minority but I think this is one of Meryl's best performances.. any other actress and Miranda would've been just a dragon lady. but meryl manages to make her human with even just the slightest tilt of her head. or the way she looks at  andy when they meet..

I live for this scene, she read Andrea. Andre was so obnoxious, dismissive and
condescending, the way she snorted and Miranda put her in her place using a bored
tone; made her look like a complete fool...amazing scene and I loved the fashion history
lesson.

I love the 'why is no one ready?' Meryl Streep was amazing in this film.

Best delivery--Priestly/Streep.
Best scene steal--Emily!

As someone who worked in this biz the gravity everyone portrayed themselves with was often borderline ridiculous. On the other hand, everything Miranda says here is SPOT ON. I sat buyers and Wintour herself at shows, and Everyone knew that they along a few other editors and journos could determine what was worn and how much could potentially be spent based on their opinions.

Honestly I think this is one the best Meryl Streep's performances of her entire career. Top5 at least.

Honestly one of the best monologues in cinema history

This is about the reality of the limits of Free Will. We think we are making choices but those choices are limited to the choices that are available to us based on what others have chosen for us. Food, music, the President, ect...

When you look closely at them, the belts are different shades. Plus, what if the colour matches the outfit but the buckle clashes?

That was worth the price of the movie. In one short monologue MERYL STREEP'S CHARCTER MASTERFULLY EXPLAINED THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY AND FASION. CULTURAL
