At one time you had to be a SSgt in 46150, 46250 or 46350 in order to crosstrain into EOD. I think it was mid 70s they opened EOD up to pipeline students, many of the old EOD Techs were really against it but one thing it did do for the career field is build a better rank structure and helped promotion opportunities. TSGT used to be a very hard rank to make when everyone started out as a SSGT. I spent 13 years in AMMO and 10 years in EOD and don't regret the day I crosstrained into EOD a very rewarding career field and tight Brotherhood.

My husband was an EOD Prelim instructor at Lackland. He had wanted the course lengthened with no success. Looks like someone finally listened. It would drive him nuts when students would pass at Lackland and get to Eglin and ring the bell to quit.

yea they moved it when they revamped the course. my class started with 17 and had 3 graduate. Word on the street is they softened it up though since then, cause sending such small groups to eglin wasnt working very well.

Why AF EOD don’t go through a similar pipeline like Navy EOD I.e. jump school, Free fall, Dive school etc, since they get put with different branches and spec ops?

Well, that explains why the class size looks so large. When I went through we had 5, and it was still at Lackland. Did they move to Sheppard when they revamped the new course?
