Lake St Clair, located 25 kilometres north of Singleton in the foothills of Mt Royal National Park, is roughly 16 kilometres long and has a storage capacity of 283 megalitres, almost half that of Sydney Harbour.

Lake St Clair was built as part of Glennies Creek Dam to help manage water flows from the Hunter River, and is named for the homestead that was submerged when the dam was completed in 1983. Lake St Clair is now known throughout the Hunter region as a premier boating, fishing, sailing, and water-skiing destination.
