In Flanders Fields

"In Flanders Fields" is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres. According to legend, fellow soldiers retrieved the poem after McCrae, initially dissatisfied with his work, discarded it. [Wikipedia]

This version was scored by Roger Emerson and John Jacobson and arranged by Roger Emerson. I've rearranged some notes and added a second ending to make it work better as a piano solo.

Lest we forget.

First heard this in the end credits of "extra history - the seminal tragedy". 200 of those views are me, playing this song over and over again. Crying.

One of my favourite songs, just for how almost calming it is. Also a softie, which is good.

Well done, Ms Zhu. You truly captured the melancholy tone and message of this piece with your piano playing. Lt. John McCrae would be proud of your work.

It's pretty sad that ww1 is not taught or studied nearly as much as ww2. This conflict was much more devastating and impactful to the world than anything else in human history.

If the kaiser never went on vacation or if he was still reachable in his vacation, no WW1, No Russian Revolution, No WW2, no US imperialism and Cold War, and then no ISIS. Coz the Wilhelm said that there was no more reason to go to war when he saw the terms the Serbs agreed OR, if the driver of the archduke was aware of the new route, no WW1 and yadayadayad.

I know this song is about WW1 but this reminds me of one of my family members that got shot down in an airplane over Berlin in WW2 by the German Reich
