How To Make Fire With A Jute And Wood Ashes Fire Roll

Using the Jute twine from your pack, ashes from last night's or last weeks fire, a couple of split branches or flat pieces of bark or flat rocks, and applied pressure you can make a fire roll friction fire. The ember from this fire roll is intense and will ignite any tinder bundle. We'll just use an unprocessed Jute tinder bundle in today's demonstration.

Ive been making primitive fires for over 20 years and l always have a roll of jute with me. BUT some newer craft jute has fire retardent on it for safety. So just be sure to read the label.

I've cut jute into 8" lengths and dipped them in melted candle wax for a great fire starter.

Hi David! No doubt the jute fibers can do the job, but I as you say, prep is labor intensive.
