Flood in larger scale can occur in few situations-:
- meteors hitting any water bodies specially larger ocean.
- moon or anf nearby planets show any major movement like change of the inches of of its movement.
- techtonic plate movement which can create inside water earth movement or earthquake which can create huge flood.
- Heavy rain which can cause major damage to the drains or hilly areas flood and water clogging. It can be removed by only proper drainage and clear connection with the sea or ocean.
- Rise of water ocean sea water due to major effect on the water bodies due to tides or other several issues.

Water can be a major blessing for the human kind but for the end its only iccy surface and existamce of only deep bodies ocean creatures.

I have tried to enjoy this movie but the science is so absurd that I just can't suspend my disbelief long enough to get through it. I know that the science in most sci-fi is ridiculous, it's just that this one goes too far.

Satnam's death was stupid plothole in the movie.

Satnam KNEW the timeline of the world ending (the beginning of the movie, well BEFORE the event). He would have demanded to have his family moved to a safer location, where they would be escorted to safety, when everyone else was.
