BRUTALLY Honest Review - Still Worth It? | Tesla Model X 2024

It's been about 9 months since I took delivery of my Model X Plaid and I have some conflicting feels...On one hand, I feel like this is my dream car with so much amazing power and performance. But at the same time, Model X does not hold the premium place in Tesla's lineup like it once did...plus it has some serious issues that need to be fixed. Let's talk about the 2024 Model X and whether it's still worth it, why the Model Y may be a better value, and why Cybertruck might be a better choice on the high end.

Nothing "brutal" about your review. I reserved Cybertruck on Dec. 3 2019 and recently got the invitation to buy a Foundation Series. In 2021 I leased a Model Y as a placeholder for my Cybertruck. 3 years later and the lease return imminent I found the Cybertruck's $40K price increase a bit much to take and started looking at used Model X's from Tesla. I purchased a fully optioned 6 seat 2018 Model X in April for less that 1/3rd the original selling price. It had less than 50K miles on the ODO and includes a 1 yr warranty from Tesla. It came with Enhanced Autopilot and I was able to upgrade that to FSD for another $2K whick included a HW 3 upgrade.

So I'm all in $43K for a $150K+ MSLP Tesla with FSD and loving it. Since I have the Ultra Sonic Sensors, the doors (front and Falcon Wing) open fully in my garage and the drivers door always auto opens unless there is an actual object in the way. I get 300 mile max range, it seats 6 (4 adults, 2 grandchildren) comfortably and the overall driving experience is much better than my 2021 Model Y.

I may indeed get a Cybertruck but Robert to Robert, I think I'm onto something good in buying used from Tesla and it will likely be a slightly used one in a few years. YMMV 🙂

I've had my 2024 MX for 6 weeks and I love it! I chose it over the MY because of the seating comfort and spaciousness. I have the LR 5 seater which provides a lot of space for hauling stuff which is what a SUV is designed for. Its quiet and smooth ride makes it excellent for leisure driving. I sat in a Cybertruck and found it too high for ease of entry and exit. Also, the CT is too big for my garage. I hope Tesla continues to keep the MX with cutting edge technology.

My dream Tesla was a Model S/X Plaid. Went looking around online 6 months ago and found a gently used 2023 Model X Plaid in Ultra Red with white interior, FSD and only 3k miles. $97k OTD and we've loved it thoroughly. Wicked fast acceleration, super smooth ride and we've had zero issues with any of the doors in any of the situations you've filmed. It's so roomy, so plush and comfortable and with auto opening/closing doors, auto gear shifts and a banging audio system, it's everything I've ever wanted in a vehicle. The helicopter windshield and tow hitch seal the deal for me. Great video.

I’m picking up my X in two days, July 2024.

Model x is way bigger in person than how it looks in the picture or videos. I had a loaner for a few days and it was bigger than my wife’s acura mdx in the garage. Just less cargo space because of the slanted rear. Ride quality and comfort was better than the mdx. I really liked the car. My wife would have traded her mdx if only the x had better mileage and more cargo space.

I test drove a model X a few days ago and really loved it. I am waiting to see if there are maybe some end of quarter or end of year deals before I pull the trigger, but this video really helped! I should add that I have driven MYLR's for 3 years, so I'm very familiar with the basics of the car. The ride on the X was so much smoother and quieter. Thanks Robert!!

That’s strange how your Falcon Wing Doors are not opening in your garage. You would think they would open partially then stop short of opening fully, but yours are not opening at all. I don’t have that issue with mine. I have a 2024 X in the same color as yours. Have you tried forcing them to open fully and toggle the open fully at this location not the touch screen to override it? I would suggest putting in a service ticket and attach a video showing the issue. I heard there are ways to reset the sensor on the doors, but I’ve never tried it.

There’s no way I’d go Cybertruck over a MX. I do not want the attention Cybertruck brings and I do not like it from a design standpoint. Love the tech in it and it’s a no brainer that that tech will trickle down into the other models just as MS has done for the M3. The MX and MS just need some love from Tesla after being built first and setting the standard for the rest of the lineup to fill out. I’d personally go refreshed MY over an MX because it has matured to a point that it gives you 90% of an X for less money.

It is not that hard dude.
If u have a family and just do road trips, no need to tow or haul and or not a contractor then buy the X or a more affordable Y.

If u haul, tow and or are a contractor with a family then u buy a Cybertruck.
Life is simple.

I wish there was a larger tesla suv with normal doors. Not a fan of the falcon wing or button press front doors. R1s seems like the only decent large suv ev on the market

I have a model 3 and was looking for a bigger second car. The X just doesn't make much sense when compared to what's available. Ended up getting the R1S, me and my wife love it so far.

I have '19 XLR and '22 YP. For around the town and just myself, Y. When going further out with family, the X. The driving dynamic of the Y is so good. Berri No-ICE.

powered frunk is the only addition I really need on the X. customizable driver display would be nice too. Stayed to the end of the video. Very well put together. I would honestly like stalks for the turn signals and wipers if we're being honest.

I didn't know you had no customization on the instrument panel, you sure no music showing at all? Also on the door there is no manual way to hold the outside door button to start opening it? Does the yoke ever hit your legs in a turn or your hands hit your legs? I think I still want

I think X still is a strong option. I owned a MYLR for a year… not enough range for my application (hyper commuter). My complaint on the MX would probably be the same thing. Love the design as the closest thing to a minivan that is on the market as an EV. A bit disappointed in the third row not being adult capable though, given the price. Not interested in the CT exterior design. I like the front end, but hate the bed design.

Love my six-weeks-old MX LR. With that being said, Tesla forgot what is the whole purpose, the main creation, of this car. The MX supposed to be the most comfortable and the most technologically advanced car in the Tesla line up. That is no longer the case. The MX is Outdated, plain interface, lack of functions that other lower models already have, lack of newer hardware, and quality. It feels as Tesla pushed the MX to the side and focused on other models, which is understandable why but, doesn't change the fact that the MX need a good refresh.

I’m currently debating between MX and CT. Originally I was all in on CT. I have the deposit, I got called for the Foundation Series and I have need for a large cargo area. I thought CT was it … until I test drove a MX. I loved it. For almost $30k less (MXLR vs CTFS) you get so much. Yes there are things on CT that I wish MX had but then again there are things on MX that I wish CT had. I’m a big fan of the second screen, even if it isn’t customizable at this point. I love the tilted screen. I LOVE that you just have to push the brake and the door closes. That windshield!!!! Falcon wing doors are cool but they are a love/hate type of feature and I wish MX (and all the line up) had a front facing camera. I also WISH MX had steer by wire. That would make much more sense with the yoke. Yes, the CT serves a similar purpose as the MX but they are still different vehicle types. Some people just don’t want a truck, and some especially don’t want the CT. I assume once you get in both they have similar feels since they are both Tesla’s and there are minimal differences between the interiors but there’s something different in driving an car or SUV over driving a pick up truck. Surprisingly, I am finding myself leaning more towards the MX than the CyberTruck and when I initially put the deposit down on the CT, I never thought that would ever be a possibility.

I love the Model X, but recently purchased a 2024 Mach-E as my first EV. So far I’m loving it, no complaints. I test drove the model X and immediately fell in love, but I wasn’t ready to pay nearly $100k for my first EV for fear I may not like it. I definitely have Model X at the top of my list for a future EV. But still hearing so may issues with Model X and I’m slightly afraid I’d buy a car that will spend way too much time in a service center. Torn between that and a Rivian R1S. Loving the cyber truck, looks amazing but its not for me personally. I think I’ll check out Model X in a year or so and see the comparison to the Mach E and if it’s worth moving to the Model X! FYI… I stayed till the end! LOL

Front trunk doesn't open automatically? Thank God it doesn't the least complexity you have the better and less chance of something breaking. Also why would you think that touch sensitive buttons are more premium. No, they are cheaper to produce harder to use and overall a bad idea.
