Mahirap maisakatuparan sa ngayon ang pangako ni President-elect Bongbong Marcos, noong siya'y nangangampanya pa lamang, na mapababa sa P20 kada kilo ang presyo ng bigas.

Ayon kay outgoing Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, kulang na kulang ang budgetary support sa sektor ng agrikultura sa kasalukuyan para ito ay kayanin.

At least may solusyon ang incoming elected president at sana noong panahon mo ginawa mo yan o binigyan mo ng pansin ang agrikultura.Ganyan ka naman lagi mahilig kumontra kaya walang tiwala sayo ang karamihan na Pilipino.

The new elected President did not say it can happen overnight but overtime it will because his priority is to improve the system of agriculture and food security and hopefully by that time the Philippines will no longer import rice but the opposite.

Mahirap yan abutin, lalo na kung si Kiko ang tanungin kasi he is not a true farmer. I think, even in importing rice, that is possible. I know of some rice importers who got very rich. If they were not earning much from buying abroad, they will stop their business. I believe that rice bought abroad, may only be acquired at about 10.00 pesos per kilo. There are non-rice eating countries that are exporting rice like India and Vietnam : Vietnam's staple are noodles, while India relies on wheat for their daily chapatti. Even in the situation where we are presently in, 20.00 per kilo can be possible, especially with the help of our other government agencies. DAR people should stop advicing landowners to stop planting rice in irrigated areas, so that they can claim that these lands are not productive for agriculture anymore ; hence can be converted to non- agricultural uses like subdivision projects. There are big land areas specially, here in Mindanao that can be harnessed. These lands are fertile because they have not been utilized for years! This was what happened in the middle of the 1950's when my father cut the trees in his new landholding and planted camote, mais and upland rice. We had the tasty Kirikit rice without irrigation, and very large camotes and maize. Look at Mindanao in Google Earth and you will see large non-forest areas and military reservations that had not been utilized and these will not need fertilizers for the first croppings.
