This video explains how sentences are divided based on structure.
It also explains briefly about dependent and independent clause
What a sentence made of?
It is made of Clauses. Now, it may be one clause which may be independent Or
it may consist of one or more clause which may be collection of independent and dependent clause.
Based on this criteria sentences are divided into four types :
1.SIMPLE SENTENCE
2.COMPOUND SENTENCE
3.COMPLEX SENTENCE
4.COMPLEX-COMPOUND SENTENCE
1. Simple Sentence
A simple sentence consists of only one independent clause containing a subject and a verb and it shows complete meaning.
There is no dependent clause.
2. Compound Sentence
A compound sentence consists of at least two independent clauses. It is joined by coordinating conjunction.
There is no dependent clause in compound sentence.
The coordinating conjunctions use to join independent clauses are “for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so”.
3. Complex Sentence
A complex sentence consists of one independent clause and at least one dependent clause
It is joined by subordinating conjunction. like (because, although, since, when, unless etc)
or It is joined by relative pronoun like (that, who, which ).
4. Complex - Compound Sentence
A complex-compound sentence consists of at least two independent and one or more dependent clauses.
It is also sometimes called compound-complex Sentence.
