The Mappy U.S. cabinet is very unique, I like it!

What I don’t like about the American Pac-Man art is that it essentially spawned this negative stigma over Pac-Man having limbs, when he’s had them since the beginning.

even when I was a little kid, I thought the US cabinet art for Pac Man looked stupid.

A local pizzeria used to have an original U.S. Pac Man cabinet. I remember staring at the artwork, specifically what was supposed to be Pac Man and just trying to wrap my brain around how it resembled the character in any way.

Honestly for me, looks of cabinets don’t matter. It’s the gameplay that matters.

This is really my thought but I think the main reason Namco still uses the US artwork for Pac-Man merchandise is yes while it's still ugly and not close to the original Japanese artwork it's very rememberable to Americans and iconic to them as well since that's what they saw back in the 80s. Let's also not forget that Pac-Man's success really came from US arcade sales since that's where it really exploded success. So really the main reason they keep it is for nostalgia's sake among those who remember it the most.

It still highly amuses me that in terms of the localization of Pac-Man in terms of the artwork that's on the sides of
The arcade machine
The fact that in Japan Pac-Man's design Closely resembles
Would we would eventually get in terms of some of the later games especially during the Pac-Man world era of the franchise the fact that the US cabinets design of the titular hero looks nothing like how he does in the game makes me wonder why they didn't just use a modified version of his Japanese design but make it more look like what he would eventually end up looking like in terms of his design in the later Games

I love how they didn’t bother trying to make a new bezel for Super Pac-Man, they just recycled puck-man’s bezel and call it a day lol.

I'm happy to finally learn who the illustrator of the Japanese Pac-Man cabinet art is! I really like that style growing up and took some inspiration from it for a comic book I'm making. I already have the first issue out for it on my website if you're curious about the project.

The Japanese Namco art from years ago is WAY better than any of the US art. There’s a reason you barely see ANY US Namco material in Namco Museum

Pac-Man Museum+ took a damn good step in the right direction with recreations of the bezels on the American cabinets (namely for Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, Pac-Land and Pac-Mania but also Namco Classic Collection Vol. 2 was nice), and that's a step towards them recreating the Japanese bezels sometime in the future as well, please GOD let that happen soon.

The namco japan arcades coin slot looks like a coin slot that you would find in a namco capsule machine

I'd like to apologize in advance for having different opinions about the designs lol. While the Japan Pac-Man cabinet design looks great, I also really like the US design, it's just so weird looking it's got it's own charm to it I think. It kind of grew on me after playing Pac-Man on my ipod nano, and I have a US Pac-Man cabinet that I absolutely love as a grail for my collection. Though I do agree that the US character design doesn't lend itself to a lot of poses. Fun fact, I used to think this was the original Pac-Man as a kid lol. I totally get the love for the unified look of the Japan cabinets, but I also love the US cabinets. I guess I just like the variety of cabinet shapes and some of the more wacky designs like Mappy's. I'm actually wanting to make a cabaret based on the US design using my childhood Ms. Pac-Man plug n' play, don't hurt me lol. Actually, I'm also trying to make cabarets based on Rally X and Super Pac-Man, using the Pac-Man and Super Pac-Man plug-n-plays respectively. I think I'm going to stick with the US art for Super Pac I modified for a cabaret size, and I'd like to recreate the japanese bezel for Rally X if I can even find a good reference for it lmao.

Thats a matter of opinion. I wouldnt want anything different in my experience at arcades in the late 70s and 80s.
