Bear Simone and Her Four Cubs Are Back

"Are you sure, like 100% sure, totally confident, that there's nothing at all for us? Did you check everywhere? Maybe double check? Pleeease..."

I don't hang the bird feeder at all times. The birds, like the bears, have plenty of natural food literally lying on the ground. In spite of what many people think I'm not in the bear-feeding business. If they score some birdseed once in a while, so be it. But I intend for them to forage for themselves and, more importantly, teach their cubs how it's done. Their health and survival depend on it.

Patrick - I was impressed! You kept the camera on the cubs when Simone was two feet away to your left! That required trust on your part, and Simone earned your trust. She was disappointed at your lack of goodies, but she expressed her disappointment pretty gently.

As tempting as it is to feed Mom, you are doing the best thing by not right now. The cubs will mimic Mom's behavior as she digs for grubs, eats certain plants etc...even if still nursing. Kudos! I know how hard it must be not to hang the feeders.
