A cut scene with Scotty and Troi. Deleted due to the episode running too long.

A lot of assumptions being made over why this was cut. Just to clear things up, it’s been explained by Ron Moore that it was only cut due to the episode running too long.

Makes me wonder how many other deleted scenes there are of Deanna actually doing her job.

I'm 58 so I watched the original series in reruns, early on, and enjoyed it very much.

I watched The Next Generation when it was first broadcast and, due to other factors in my life at the time, nothing to do with the series, it didn't make that much of an impression on me.

But, I very much remember the episode with Scotty and am very glad that it came together.

RIP Mr. Doohan.

Scotty getting to know LaForge was cool. Scotty getting to know O'Brien would have been amazing.

Someone needs to make an extended cut of this episode.

I was so happy to have met James Doohan in 1994. His character was one of the reasons I became an engineer. I love being a problem solver.

It’s crazy how you can watch this knowing that it’s being filmed on set without all the added sounds, etc, but their acting is so good that you’re transported aboard the ship with them.

Guessing the next time we see Scotty is outside the Holodeck telling the computer what he "needs"....

Deanna never mentioning that "oh, your crewmate Ambassador Spoke is still alive, and Doctor McCoy was at our ship's launch about 5 years ago.

My little group of Trek nerds found him in the convention bar and offered to buy him a drink. And he spent an hour with us going on with fascinating anecdote after anecdote. He was awesome as Scotty, and he was just plain awesome. Not to mention a wounded veteran, having been a Canadian infantryman and later on a pilot in WW2.

Scotty knows what he needs. It's green, and it's high-proof.

It's NEVER a bad time when Counselor Troy stops by🥰

James Doohan was the first ST actor I have ever met, it was during a convention in 1991. He was very kind and took the time to talk to each fan who wanted to talk to him.

"What exactly does a counsellor do?" A lot of trekkies have been wondering that about Deanna for decades

I think this is the only time that she explains her degree and job description.

in retrospect, it's a good thing this scene was cut, because the idea that they wouldn't have had at least one mental health professional at Kirk's ship would have been insane, now that therapy is far more mainstream today.

It's intriguing to see the scene with no added sound effects--no background "rumble" from the ship, no door chime (Scotty just turned and yelled at the door), and no sounds from the doors other than a soft "clunk" as they opened and closed. It's easy to forget that the actors aren't actually hearing any of that while they're, you know, acting.

Shame they had to cut this as it added more depth to the great episode that it was. Thanks for posting! :)
