World Humanitarian Day 2021: How floods, caused by climate change in Sudan drive GBV

As part of World Humanitarian Day 2021, we look at how unprecedented flooding, linked to climate change, has affected Sudan, leading to a spike in #GBV reports. 2020 saw the seventh year of floods and over 4.8 million women and girls were left vulnerable to increase forms of violence. Reports of intimate partner violence, sexual violence and other forms of exploitation peaked during this period.

Akiko Sakaue, the GBV Sub-Sector Coordinator for Sudan, explains the impact that climate change is having in Sudan and some of the steps taken to support women and girls who are left vulnerable to different forms of violence.
