Yes!!! It’s so refreshing to see an experienced quilter sharing about cheap quilting tips!!! I buy cheap clothing at the thrift or go through peoples free bags to find things I can cut up for my quilt blocks I’m DETERMINED not to fall into the trap of spending hundreds of dollars on each quilt I make and I just KNOW there’s a way to find cheap options at the thrift it may take a little longer to sift through all the things at the thrift stores and look around for free piles but I tell you what I’m all about saving money

Thanks for your help! Today I finished deconstructing 19 men’s dress shirts while keeping my elderly mother company at the hospital. She was recovering from a mild stroke, and needed rest, but I wasn’t going to leave her there alone....! So this project deconstructing the shirts was the perfect way to pass the weekend while planning my next few quilts I knew

Went to my local charity shop and lo and behold found a 3XL cranberry gingham in a really high quality fabric. Would have loved to see it on the fellow that owned it. I am just getting into using men’s shirts for quilting. Today I found two denim & flower shirts! I wanted to jump up and down and shout out about it! Had to calm myself down. One long sleeve and one short sleeve! I felt so lucky!❤😊

I have a friend who says I'll end up getting bedbugs if I keep buying clothes & fabric at thrift stores. I told her she could only buy new things at a store that looks clean & still end up with a problem. Country of origin, time in storage & transit, type of transit, how many people have handled it before you, the hidden "dirty" secrets of any store, etc. can all add up to you getting a problem. I don't bring any soft goods into the apartment until they have been washed. They stay in the van, which is parked in the open parking lot with heat, humidity, freezing cold, etc. (Northern gal). I think I'm safe as is possible. But I do draw the line at mattresses & sofas/chairs/etc.

I have a decent stash of fabric already, but I'm learning that I can fill in any holes with men's shirts, especially the low-volume kind. I love your hauls! I have a thing for gingham too and buy it whenever I find it a thrift stores, but never thought to look at shirts. I love learning new things!
