Difference between Strategy and Tactics | Strategic Management

Strategy and Tactics are both concerned with formulating and then carrying out courses of action intended to attain particular objectives. The language of strategy maneuver is also largely the language of tactics. ‘Tactics’ follow and facilitate strategy and are defined as techniques or science of dispensing and maneuvering forces to accomplish a limited objective or an immediate end.

Strategy and Tactics are distinct in terms of their dimensions. Strategy, for the most part, is concerned with deploying resources, and tactics are concerned with employing resources.

Strategy deals with wide spaces, long periods, and large movements of forces; on the contrary, tactics deal with narrow spaces, short periods, and small movements of forces. Strategy is the prelude to action, and tactics are the action itself.
There is a unique relationship between strategy and tactics. Every tactic can be a significant strategic opportunity.
