How a brake works on an electric motor

Can i attach setup for electro magnetic braking system for ordinary motor or ordinary motor is replaced by new motor with electri magnetic braking system.

We have an electro motor which is used in a machine where we paste cover of a book. And now all of a sudden it heated and some some were also starting comming out. When we open it, there plates of small and big. And the small one look like they are burn out. I would used some help from you about it, if it needed to repair.if you can kindly share your view or thought about it.because we still need to rung that machine for urgent work. Thank you
