One of my favorite Magic decks ever is 20 Mountain 40 Lightning Bolts because it kills on turn four and thus it’s a great gauge for how fast a burn deck is

2X Black Lotus + Channel + Fireball is 20 damage and 4 cards. You’d just build your deck with 20 of each so you’d open at least 2 Lotus plus the other 2 cards.

I remember my favourite deck on Microprose Magic: the Gathering for Windows 95 was 20 Black Lotus, 20 Ball Lightning, and 20 Timetwister.

Much more likely to be the classic Channel + Fireball combo that compelled the rules change... I was playing Magic back in 1994 before this rule. *Everyone* talked about Channel+Fireball. Nobody talked about Elves + 5 Berserks... the other really famous combo from around that era (slightly later, after they had already changed the rules) was Atog + Ornithopter + Enduring Renewal. But Channel Fireball was absolutely the most famous.

10 Sol Rings
10 Juggernauts
10 Berserks

Turn one: Forest, Sol Ring, two more Sol Rings, Juggernaut.
Turn two: Forest, Berserk the Juggernaut twice. Attack for lethal.

It was consistent and deadly.

They actually specifically pointed to the channel fireball combo because you would run 20 black lotus, 20 channel, 20 fireball and won turn one pretty much no matter what

It seems that it was because people put in their decks a few fireballs and all other cards black lotuses and ancesteral recalls. So you generate enough mana and then oneshot opponent with a fireball
