Interesting to consider that Mao's upbringing was in rural northern china, along with many of the original communists, which always had a very mushroom/root based/spice based cuisine. In comparison, chiang kai shek and other nationalist politicians were born on the east coast and around Shanghai, which has always had a sweeter and more seafood based cuisine, hence have always historically eaten less spice. Did the nationalists' taste in passive food cost them the civil war? who knows

I recently read the journal of Otto Braun, German communist who accompanied the Chinese communists on the long march. When he choked on the red peppers, Mao basically trolled him and told him that a real revolutionary should be able to stomach red pepper.

Similar to Chris' analysis of smoking being a modern day ritual of exploring the Shadow/The Devil, I always had a vague pondering of spiced food being somewhat of a chthonic delicacy that allows us to---subconsciously, of course---experience the Hell-Realms, survive them, and build the deeper knowledge of what humanity is I guess was still the ultimate point of this video, so I'll go back my catfish & fries with Frank's Red Hot Sauce. I have gone to the Thai place near my house enough times now that they are willing to make my food truely spicy. I've noticed that eating something very spicy gives a similar feeling as a runner's high.

In my own occult work I've found spicy foods are often associated with Gods of fire like Loki and Prometheus. Perhaps by ingesting spicy foods one is igniting ones own inner fire which brings excitement and life to an otherwise boring existence?

This is a synchronicity, given how I enjoyed a most delicious bowl of motsunabe yesterday, with delicious offal meat and tons of spice. It powered me up so much, that I was able to go out into the cold night and do cool things. I was so spiced up by it, that I was even sweating buckets at some point, but I loved it --I'm Mexican, so I'm contractually obligated to handle my spice.

I hear that when you eat spicy food you're basically causing a controlled pain reaction in your system. Your body releases the same endorphins you'd release if you broke a bone, but in a dosified way. That's interesting to think about.
