Fans that didn’t pay attention and the gods in the show that didn’t know the full story really gaslit people into believing in real life that Goku was the cause of the erasing part of ToP. Even though Vados flat out says the real story.

Nobody knew Zenou was going to wipe out other universes regardless of the ToP though. I don't think Beerus belief that Goku's naivety could endanger the universe was unwarranted. It turned out allright in the end but it's not like Beerus knew that.

Goku in the tournament of power literally said “I’m not backing down because if I do then I will lose their faith in me” this was right after Jiren shot a ki blast at his back and krillin thought goku was down but then said goku get So basically he is not evil he has changed a lot of evil people to be good guys which is more good then any of us could do.

Reminder in the manga before the TOP, the two zenos were planning to erase the multiverse and start anew, but goku called wanting to know about the TOP, which stopped them.

No, Goku isn't a villain but his goal is selfish. I remember playing Budokai 3 and when you complete Goku's story it explains his conclusion. "His primary goal was a selfish one; driven by a desire to fight stronger opponents" I didn't understand this when I was a kid but as I got older, I understand now and boy DBS really pushed that obsession for Goku a lot

Goku isn't a secret villain like a lot of people are saying he's just fucking stupid sometimes. he doesn't think and it puts people in situations where it's like "yo man what the fuck?".

I know people dislike his selfish goal to become stronger than may at the cost of something else, Toriyama's confirmation and DBS portrayal of Goku, but there is an interview few month ago, Toyotaro and Masako Nozawa stated that his desire of getting stronger is actually come from wanting to protect his friends and family, which I think make sense because the stronger a person is, the better they can protect others. I think it fits Goku's character.

Also to add, in the beginningof the TOP Arc where the Grand Priest states the rules, they said that the Omni King wanted to erase some Universes cuz there was too many. So if it wasn't for Goku pushing for the TOP, most of the universe would be gone

I wouldn't consider Goku evil or a villain. In fact, he is a very generous person who has helped others time and again since the original DB series. However especially since Z he does have a dangerous tendency to not think ahead. For example, he asked Crillin to spare Vegeta, and even though that turned out to be good for the universe, it was so by accident. Goku didn't ask that Vegeta be spared because he sensed some good in him, but because he wanted to fight him again, despite knowing that losing would endanger the entire planet.

Can't believe we're still talking about the tournament of power thing, yes we did know they would die if they lose and yes for a couple of weeks it did look like some of it was goku's fault but he never suggest blow up whichever universe doesn't win, during the preliminaries and leading up to the main they say several times that Goku gave them a Fighting chance, it was never Goku's fault

I think that we also shouldn't forget that the very moment just before Goku showed up to remind him of having a tournament (IN THE MANGA) Zeno was discussing with the Grand Priest that he wanted to wipe out the universes. Then Goku Showed Up.

If Frieza had won the TOP instead of 17, he would have definitely made a selfish wish on the Super Dragon Balls to grant himself more power to overthrow the Omni Kings and rule over all 12 Universes like he planned to do.

I've loved Goku in og Dragon Ball since I was a kid, but always thought of him as a man-child when he grew up. From that little moment where he let Frieza power-up to the fullest just because he wanted a fair fight, not really thinking of the possible consequences for the whole universe, him failing to understand the non-violent nature of his own son during the Cell games; I love Piccolo's speech in that episode, by the way. And the most jarring one when he chose to not destroy the androids before they got activated because he "wanted to fight powerful enemies". 😂 So, a selfish and stupid man-child, he is but a villain, nah.

There is also that one line from the Zenos about the super dragon balls where they say, "They can do *anything*.

It was almost like they were nudging 17 to make the right choice and he did. 17 was ALSO influenced by Goku to make that wish from the obvious look they give each other.
