Description:
Greece and Bulgaria Went to War Because of a Dog
On October 18, 1925, an unexpected incident near the border town of Petrich led to what is now known as the "Stray Dog War." A dog crossed the Bulgarian frontier, and when a Greek soldier chased after it, the Bulgarian soldiers mistook it for an invasion and opened fire, killing the Greek soldier. This sparked a conflict that escalated quickly.
The Greek president demanded compensation from Bulgaria, but when Bulgaria refused, Greek troops invaded and occupied the town of Petrich and its surrounding region. Small skirmishes broke out along the border, involving 10,000 Bulgarian soldiers and 20,000 Greek soldiers.
The conflict was eventually resolved by the League of Nations, which ordered a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Greek troops from Bulgaria, and for Greece to pay 45,000 pounds in compensation. Despite the resolution, around 50 people lost their lives in this short-lived but intense conflict.

Why are our cities unclean? When this question is asked, fingers are pointed at the municipal bodies and the rampant corruption in the system. The news often tells us we are on the path to becoming Vishwaguru, yet our local bodies are struggling to provide basic facilities like door-to-door garbage collection.
Despite promises and plans, the trash piles up, and citizens are left frustrated. So what’s really going wrong? We explore the challenges local bodies face and why bringing cleanliness to everyone remains an unrealized goal in India.
