It was surprisingly in tune with itself for being a half step flat!

My dad was a piano tuner for my whole life up until his death when I was 18. As a child I would often times go with him to jobs and watch as he worked. He’d always end a job by playing some free form jazz or an old blues rock song and occasionally at my constant behest he’d crank out the Charlie Brown Christmas song. My first job in high school was as his assistant during piano moves. Its never occurred to me to look up piano tuning videos. As I just discovered your channel a flood of memories has filled my mind. Thanks.

Rag always sounds more realistic on out of tune pianos. Gives that saloon quality to it.

I love that you play the after clip before the before clip. It makes it that much more obvious to those of us that aren't musically inclined.

Joplin origionally wrote the Maple Leaf Rag in A, on an old square grand, notorious for drifting flat like that. The only composition suggestion he entertained was to put it into A-flat.

I used to clean, replace springs, remove dropped pens, and do small repairs in old pianos in my high school. 13 years fast forward, those memories pinched my heart when I started watching your videos so I ordered few piano repair kit a week ago. Now I'm planning to overhaul and tune a friend's piano to practice 😂

Thanks for your videos dude 🫡💪🏻🔥

Okay, now I get why they haven’t noticed the out of tune piano. For some reason it just sounds SO GOOD—

When I was cleaning carpets in Westchester, it was our policy to NEVER move any piano to get the carpet underneath the legs. Most customers understood, but there were a few who could not wrap their heads around the fact that it would almost inevitably put the instrument out of tune.

Used to have an ol' B Standard piano in my home growing up.

I remember my grandparents had an upright piano. I never saw it being tuned and neither being played properly. I still don't know who bought it and when. Since I've seen those piano tuning videos here I wonder what's the future of that piano as it was just standing in the garage of them for 20 years or more. Sometimes used for child's play and probably just put some cans of cat food on it.
So now my aunt and uncle own the house, but for a while it's uninhabited since they have been living around the corner for a while. I just cannot fit the piano in my apartment right now but if I'd knew what could happen to it I'd like to renew the finish of the wood and get it tuned again. Maybe my kids would like to learn playing at some point.

The maple leaf rag on the out of tune piano sounds like a song you will hear in a 1930s cartoon.

Lots of respect to the woman's daughter for being able to tell the difference with it being toned just a note flat, it might not sound like it but it takes talent to be able to tell the difference

Irving Berlin had a transposing piano. It had a mechanism to physically shift the whole keyboard over, so now the keys would strike different notes up or down.

Love your kids. My uncle was a master tuner. Ioved watching him tune our pianos.

I just realized that we’ve gotten 2 videos over an hour long each within the past three days. Thank you for all your work Rachel! Your videos are always high quality but still feel authentic. Beautiful job
