Its no coincidence that Nymeria and Ghost are the last of the Stark wolves still alive at the end. They've taken on the personality of their owner. Arya is more lone wolf than Jon, but powerful and a force to be reckoned with and finds her own pack which Arya does time and time again. Jon like Ghost is loyal and stays with him throughout it all. Nymeria doesnt return to Arya but she returns to Nymeria who remembers her but is wild and free and Arya wouldn't have it any other way. She to wishes to be free. The wolves are a direct counterpart to their characters. Grey Wind dies alongside Robb, Summer dies when Bran becomes the three eyed raven because hes truly no longer Bran. Shaggy Dog dies with Rickon, then lady dies but sansa has essentially given up what it means to be a Stark. So hence the death of lady was her losing what made her a "wolf".
