10-Core i5 CPU in a NAS??? - Terramaster F4-424 Max

A wise man once said, "there's no substitute for horsepower", and he may have had a point, because the F4-424 Max NAS from Terramaster certainly seems to have plenty. Performance opens up possibilities to use this 4-bay Network Attached Storage device for more than just basic storage. But is it enough to warrant spending more over the very good entry model?

Glad to see that it’s a lot easier to gain access to upgrade it with memory/SSD cache. The F4-423 practically have to disassembly it going by online videos! Not that I need to, I picked one up recently just for some archive storage. Price wise this reviewed unit seems a bargain to someone that used to buy Netgear NAS storage devices :-)

I own 2 F6-424 Max and they are awesome.
Both have 2 4TB MVME SSDs for OS and Applications (Docker)
One is equiped with 6x18TB HDD
The other with 6x 4TB SSDs
The SSD Nas is connected via 20 GBit to the switch the HDD with 2x2, 5 GB.
Hardware is great. The OS need a few fixes but in general it is working great

What happened to the link to the Canada Store? Only $1299.99 in Canada.

Same Intel Core i5 1235U (10 core / 12 thread) CPU as my UGreen DXP8800 Plus and TerraMaster likely has the better OS. I secured my DXP8800 Plus through the Kickstarter though so it was under ~$1000 USD and has 8 bays rather then 4

Yea and 8 of them are ecores 😂
Dont get me wrong they totally fine but cores count for hybird layout is less meaningful now, like 14900k 66% of cores count are E core and you only got 8 of 24 are P cores

Thank you Dave.

I have been lusting after the QNAP TS-h1290FX, ever since it got released. It can sit ony desk, is quiet and has all the features I'll need.

I am saving up to get myself one at the January sales. Further next year, I want to add a JBOD with some high capacity EXOS drives, for backup and archiving.

Muahahahahaha hahahahahahaha! 2025, is going to be a good year for storage.

Wonder if you could use 2 x2.5" ssd in one tray as they are small and daisy chain each 2 ssds to one plug per tray, that way you could use 8 ssds?
Of course you would need 4x 1 by 2 adapters.?

Why is this so expensive, and what's it's use case?
