How fast can you go in RollerCoaster Tycoon 2?

The faster the ride, the better. Today we abuse all sorts of glitches and cheats to go as fast as possible.

Traveling faster than the speed of sound is only 3.21 excitement. Tough crowd.

I'm imagining a guest riding the go-kart of doom at Mach 2, his face being peeled off his head as he goes ever faster. Eventually, the ride comes to an end and he gets off, a bloody shambling horror with only one thought: "I can't wait to ride Go Karts 1 Again!"

Looks like the top speed is 65, 535 mph, or 105, 468 km/h. The speed seems to flip between low-ish and 100, 000 km/h, which indicates to me that it's overflowing back and forth. If I recall correctly, we can see that internally, speed is tracked as an integer in mph, because the km/h display skips over certain numbers consistently. It's akin to weather apps never displaying certain temperatures in ºF, because they track temperatures as integers in ºC internally before translating it to ºF for display.

14:15 That Double Deck Obersvation returning to station on that track made me laugh so hard

Marcel: Creates a teleporting Go-kart ride where the karts reach twice the speed of sound.
Marcel: Now things get weird.

14:16 - that double deck observation tower casually sliding along the freefall track made me laugh a lot, especially because it's not even close to the weirdest thing in this video!

Legend has it that the RCT3 universe came into being as an unintended consequence of reckless go-kart particle accelerator experiments.

There will always be that one guest saying: "I want something more exciting than Go-karts 1."

i love every instance in this game that would literally disintegrate anyone who experiences them

My favorite part of this video is 12:02 where it is revealed that traveling at 12, 464 KM/H at literal body disintegrating speeds the ride is given an intensity rating of 7.86, meaning guests will actually WANT to ride it and pay the maximum ticket price lmao.

I legitimately appreciate you starting the video by giving the "correct" answer in the first 20 seconds

This video was great. There were like 10 moments of "But wait, there's more!", every time becoming more and more ridiculous.

Marcel Vos inventing the mass effect in Rollercoaster Tycoon is probably the most improbable things I could have seen, but I'm not complaining.

7:42 - Marcel: "This is only the start, as now things will get really weird."
Also Marcel: *Go Karts teleporting around the track like it's Dragon Ball Z*

13:39 given that the top speed in mph is 65356, which is very close to 65535, i assume they save the speed as a mph in an unsigned 16 bit short integer. which means that, even if you can get the math working higher, i dont think a speed of 65536+ would be possible- at least, it wouldnt be able to display.

Can we appreciate how well this is programmed since it keeps on going with all those weird calculations and no crashes?

I'm amazed the camera still tracks the cars very well despite going faster the speed of sound.

The station brakes failing is completely insane. Can't believe all we needed to reach warp 10 was to play RCT2

10:30 That extra car is called a “zero car”. Technically all B&M coasters have them, although those on Hyper, Sitting, and Standing coasters which don’t seat any guests. Their Inverted, Flying and Wing coaster trains’ zero cars seat guests although there are some exceptions to the rule like Manta, Flying Dinosaur, and Alpengeist.
