It is not only the quarantine issues and loops to jump through to go to Thailand for a holiday.
It is also the quarantine issues on return to your home country.
Therefore no point in considering a holiday to Thailand until at least 2022.
I have reached the stage that I would consider staying in a quarantine hotel in Thailand provided it was for a maximum of 7 days and then free to travel around Thailand as I wish.
I would then apply for Retirement Visa to enable myself to stay in Thailand for as long as required until they lift the quarantine on return to the UK.

Bang on Les, tourists can't jump first, because they need to know whats what & confirmed, without any changes.
Tourists have too much to plan & they can't plan, before knowing.
On top of this, Thailand is currently on the UK red list, meaning anyone returning from Thailand to the UK has to book & pay for a £2, 000 14 night quarantine, on their return.

Only way I see it worth it, is for those travelling to retire or long term.

Thanks for sharing Les.

Good video. Sounds about right. Thanks Les.

Regarding 90- day check-ins. They are no bother for me. An hours drive to our Immigration office in Sisaket. In and out in 5 mins with a new stamp, then off for a nice luncheon with the missus in either Sisaket or Ubon Ratchathani, maybe visit a temple followed by some shopping in either Big C, Makro or Lotus. An easy drive home makes it an enjoyable day out

Hi Les, the general perception among many out there in the wider world is not good, people are generally much better clued into what's going on these days in TL and frustration abounds not just among foreigners but very much with Thai people as well. In a nutshell - TL as a place to visit or retire to is now regrettably akin to a shelf product approaching its ''sell-by date''.

As far as I'm concerned coming from the UK, its not going to happen regardless of what happens in Thailand. The UK is on the red list, and I will not be paying £2225 for the pleasure of staying in some crappy UK quarantine Hotel

Great points. Businesses need certainty. And Israel already showing the vaccines quickly become ineffective - but so many think it’s like having a measles vaccine and you’re good for life.

great analogy Les, and the money isn't the sort of money oligarchs are going to invest in a lifestyle

Thailand is going to attract lots of tourists again when the country is fully open. Although, in the last few years, Thailand isn’t interested in western retirees. Isn’t that why they made the visa rules a nightmare?
Trying to attract the wealthy to Thailand is similar to those that think taxing the wealthy is a viable concept. There are aren’t that many wealthy by comparison so those schemes never seem to work out.
People in government do not think like business people. Business people that want to have a good business
cater to the average person. They are the largest numbers and they spend the most. Wealthy people, on the
other hand, are not going to spend that much in comparison. So this plan of attracting the wealthy is flawed.
Most people, in the west, think that Thailand will not open in 2021. The number that is being thrown around is mid 2022. Before opening the vaccination rate needs to be 70%. I don’t see that happening at the present
rate of inoculations. Aside from that, without sufficient tourist numbers, businesses will not be open.
I hope that I’m wrong and the powers to be find a safe way to get Thailand’s economy moving again during the upcoming high season. Let’s all hope for the best.

Bargains or no bargains, I wouldn't consider retiring to or even visiting Thailand under the current inept, incompetent, and tyrannical dictatorial administration. Programme to attract high rollers will be least of their challenges as public unrest and daily pro-democracy protests gather pace.

The world could open in one to two months. All it would take would be some logistics to distribute preventive snd early treatments. They exist, they're just suppressed. Norway and Denmark have already opened. Borders are semi open. Businesses would of course take longer. Infection curves follow v practically exactly, so they need to be dropped. They are not needed. All we need is to get rid of the embargo on information and get the right stuff to the people.

I forgot to do the 90 day report and the fine is 2, 000baht it doesn’t effect the retirement visa in any way! Agree with your assessment on what’s going on now.

Simple advice I’ve learnt……don’t buy in thailand!…..buy in uk, rent that out then use the rent to rent permanently in thailand….makes total sense…..no security in thailand.!

How can a 50+ year old retire in Thailand without the $250K or $500K in a Thai bank? Is it possible?
