Geraldo should have said “Those young people in the military are required to learn gun safety and mandatory training, that should requirement for their teenage peers who aren’t in the military.” As soon as he brought up the drinking age thing I rolled my eyes. The drinking age should be 18.

Um, not the same weapon. My AR-15 doesn't have select fire. Neither do any of the ar-15s civilians use. Military uses an M-16 and M-4 M-18 and M-231. All of which have the "1 press many bullets" feature removed from the AR platform. 0:12 and 0:50 But I do agree it is disingenuous to send 18yr olds to war to die but limit their "adulthood" in other ways. And if I may say, in my opinion, 18 is too young to be considered "in the majority". We were fine at 21 before 1970. The change was partly due to the Vietnam War, which saw 18-year-olds (legally considered children at that time) die in combat. This prompted Congress to lower the age of majority from 21 to 18 so Congress would be accused of killing US children in war. That's another story.

If 18 yr olds are not emotionally matured enough to own a rifle then they should not be allowed to vote, seek an abortion, get married without parental consent, enter into a legal contract, open credit accounts or serve in the military. Also, if 18 is too young then please tell me why many are listening to the 15 an 16 year old school children on what should be done to protect schools.
