On 7 August 1990, just five days after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to ITN's Liz Donnelly about Israel's concerns that Saddam Hussein's forces might be contemplating an attack on Israel. Netanyahu, then Israel's Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, stated that Israel would be be compelled to respond to an Iraqi invasion of neighbouring Jordan, though he declined to specify what form the response would take.
