They don’t want to follow the rules like don’t come in drunk or drugged up.
A person or family struggling will take those beds at the shelter

As someone who lives in Maine, being without somewhere warm in winter is a death sentence

This is the same in NYC. People forget NYC gets below 10 degrees sometimes. I was homeless ass a child and then foster care for my teens and then back to homelessness since the system out here lets many people like me fall thru the cracks.

It’s the truth that most homeless people won’t follow the shelter rules. Why should they get free food and shelter when all they do is drugs and alcohol? It’s everywhere and it’s getting worse. It’s about making the right decision and they choose addiction. You can’t help somebody who doesn’t want to help themself.

Yes someone told him so then that if course must be true for all of them? I would agree there are many that are homeless by choice. There are also many who aren’t and also, homeless shelters can be very dangerous places. Its all very nuanced and can’t and shouldn’t be reduced to “just follow the rules and you can live inside.”

Well, when Blackrock owns 60% of private homes in America to rent out, you might see how that's causing an inventory shortage and increasing prices. The US government needs to make it illegal for corporations to own single family homes.

The homeless problem is more complex, there is no one answer fits all. It is easy to get a negative attitude or frustrated if you work in a homeless shelter. But your right, most don't like rules period. If you work with the homeless Pray everyday. Most of us are a paycheck away from being homeless. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.

Yeah if you come from a world where your average home costs 400, 000$. that speaks volumes.

You should come to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Homeless people die every winter. 😢 I’ve thought about building small portable sleeping units with heaters.

Follow the rules & you get the privilege of being inside.

We have the same situation here in Anchorage, Alaska. When temps really drop, all of the shelters fill up. Many of the homeless up here prefer to live in the woods, so they can continue to drink and do drugs. It’s a real draw on the city’s resources.
