Hidden in the sand: The last and hidden track of TallyHalls debut album: “Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum” which was released in October of 2005 and re-released on April Fools Day of 2008.
What makes this song so unique and different from the rest in the album is that instead of it having lots of instruments and such, it’s simply the main vocals (Joe Hawley) backing vocals (Rob Cantor, Andrew Horowitz, Zubin Sedghi and Ross Federman) a ukulele and the ocean waves.
The music video depicts a boat with a captain who starts to sing, the passengers begin dancing and then a bird pecks a hole into the ship, long story short, everyone turns on each other and dies, except the captain who plays his song until the end, succumbing to a watery death.
At the end of the video, the bird appears and says something in reverse and when translated it says “Wouldn’t the world be better off if we took nonsense more seriously?” Which is a quote said by Marvin Yagoda, founder of the actual MMMM in Ann Arbor Michigan.
TallyHall went on to create another album, “Good & Evil” (Released on June 27, 2011) which has more mature and serious themes in the songs when compared to MMMM, after the band’s last (For now) tour in the same year, the band would go on an indefinite hiatus, with Rob Joe & Andrew continuing with solo albums and Zubin and Ross going into the medical field.
TLDR: HITS is a song about DEATH
