Hoping for Alexis Wright too and I too can't get over her Booker snub. Were 720 pages too much for the committee to read, was Mercury in retrograde, like, what happened there?

Nobel laureate is a must read for me, and has definitely catapulted me to best writers and thinkers. Though non fiction has become quite urgent in recent times I make it a point to read fictions of Nobel laureate they rarely disappoint. Btw I envy your reading choices.

I would have still liked the long list of rattling names. Maybe add honorable mentions but for those you predict that they don't win. Up the odds against you.

Add Egyptian writer Alaa Al Aswany to the list, he's still younger than most of these writers, but due to his complicated writing about the Egyptian society and him being a revolutionary icon from 2011 and his recent political advocacy. He might be in the list, at least in the next few years. His work is too bold and tragic, and he's already following Naguib Mahfouz footsteps.

Cesar Aira. We haven't had a Latin American laureate since 2010. 🤩🤩

I read that they alternate between genders every year so that would rule out Yan/Gerald. I think we can also rule out any European author(considering they've won 3 in a row) and any author who writes primarily in either English or French. So my guess statistically will be a female author from either South America or Asia. No Spanish or Asian-language author has won in a really long time also.
My guess right now is Yōko Tawada. The Academy loves rewarding 'foreign' writers who also write in European languages so her writing in both Japanese and German will be very lucrative for them. Yōko Ogawa or Dương Thu Hương are next on my list.

I'd love Murnane to win. 51 years since Australia's first and only win so far.

I've never read anything by Can Xue. Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely look it up. What are the chances of Margaret Atwood getting it?

There's a ton of good options too... DeLillo could take it (but probably would’ve done so before now), Sjón definitely has a fighting chance, César Aira probably not (but I’m rooting for him), Atwood for sure has a possibility, and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Haruki Murakami won.

Wait what, who was that weird Chinese author? Can Xue? I need a book rec. I'm ready for the weird. Which one should I start with?

Might be Salman Rushdie's year ? I read his memoir Knife, it's brilliant.

The Nobel Prize isn't as meaningful as it used to be, and to be honest it never was all that meaningful. They gave the award to Bob Dylan in 2016! WTF! In the past 15 years, in my opinion, only two authors deserved it, Patrick Modiano and Herta Muller. I recently finished reading Jon Fosse's Septology and found it extremely repetitious and boring. It took me about two months to get through it because I had to stop to step away and read something else in between each part.
I'm looking right now at the full list of all the Nobel winners, and at most, in my opinion, 25% of them are worthwhile reading today. So it's not an indication of who is the best writer in the world at this time, it really boils down to which author has the most backers pushing for them.

None of these will win, recently nobel awarded to unknown writers like Abdulrazak few years ago. Thrres literally thousands of writerrs on the Nobel list, generally, its quite possible thst it wont be a western writer.

With the death of Ismail Kadare this year I don’t care who wins.

Nie rozumiem dlaczego predykcje do Literackiego Nobla skupiają się ciągle na kilku, tych samych osobach każdego roku ? To bez sensu... 😊
