I've visited the Vasa Museum a few times as a kid, and you don't realise the true scale of it until you visit it in person

Always the unsinkable ships that sink the most

Let me explain to you guys that photos do not do this ship justice. It is so beautiful. Huge. So well preserved, it's just amazing.

Another morbid fact about this ship: when they were exhuming it they found that one of the sailors skulls was crushed by a cannon, and the barrel of the cannon perfectly preserved his brain.

Seeing the Vasa is SO worth it. Unlike in other museums, Sweden doesn’t put it behind glass and you get a great sense of how awesome this ship is. And the ship builders told the king the ship wasn’t sea worthy. It has the king wanting a ship with way too many cannons that caused it to sink

I swear the “unsinkable” or “greatest” ships are always the ones to sink. The Bismark and the Titanic are perfect examples

The original design had no lower cannon ports, but the king demanded the ship have more guns to show off their power... As it turns out, the new revamped design made the 2nd lower row too close to the water, later all the ports were ordered to be open for the maiden voyage, so it would look more menacing to rival countries. But a wind picked up and tipped the ship enough over that the water poured into all the lower cannon ports on the one side and flooded it to the point of sinking.

When someone asks how tall I am I'm going to tell them in Amsterdam feet from now on

This is what happens when you have a second contractor finish the work😂😂😂

This is why I love pre modern medicine, technological advancements and the availability of food cuz back then, if you were stupid, you didn’t last long enough to spew out more replicas of you

An even more tragic part of the story is that families were allowed onboard for the ceremonial maiden voyage into the harbor. It settled into thick mud at the bottom of the harbor and was left there until modern time and the brilliant King determined that technology had advanced enough to safely raise it.

Some of those builders took "going dutch" to a whole new level.

When Vasa was launched, it had to display very unstable characteristics from the very beginning. That they let it out of the berth was overly ridiculous mistake number 2.

No photo will show the greatness of the Vasa

I feel blessed that I got to visit the museum when I was in Stockholm. I was able to get close enough to touch it!

Advice to ship builders, leave the “unsinkable” off the description.

This is a brilliant find. Humanity came a long way. At a very high price. Imagine the work that went into this.
