I live in Portugal. The quality of the houses is so low everywhere that people with money will not be interested in most of them. You can't blame the "rich foreigners" for the lack of "affordable homes" because they occupy just a small % of what's on the market

"Is this the day I leave or stay"

1:43 -
"Landlords were struggling to keep prices steady." ? - Never saw landlords having this struggle.

"They had to rise the rents to keep up with the demand“ ?

I thought one has to increase supply, not rents, to keep up with increasing demand.

Its since 2021 that the situation soared to a point of non return as the new and old government made it easy for some rich foreigner to come and not pay taxes or pay very few while the national minimum salary is at rock bottom as the big companies lobby the government to not put scandinavian salaries as then they would move to morocco, serbia or albania and leave milions depending on unemployment. I was forced to leave lisbon back in 2023 as there was no normal room less than 400 as even with 1200 it would be criminal to pay a room 500 or more if then you are left with little to no money at the end of the month

im from portugal, nomads arent the only problem. It´s a lot of immigration and overdependence on tourism, that brings jobs with low salaries.

It's all over the world, not only in Portugal, and the reason is not digital nomads but banks.

Richer countries blame immigrants, poorer digital nomads, nonsense.
