Sorry for the audio glitches. Something must have happened in the processing of the video when it was uploaded to Youtube.

Nice! I would say it's not tabless because Makita would be advertising that everywhere. But It's Makita, they could have an existing model with nuclear launch capabilities and they would simply release it with an N on the end of it, charge $10 more and no one would know why.

Just got a couple of these from Japan, and they are really awesome batteries. The "old school" 4's have always been very good batteries, but these new ones are really amazing. I would say the new bl4040f is the most versatile power tool battery out there. You get the benefits of having a higher voltage pack + tabless cells, and it is small / light enough to run on your handheld tools if needed. It kind of obsoletes the 5ah battery for me. I will definitely be selling all my old 4's and even the 5's to replace them with this bad boy. Also, can you guys imagine how awesome the tabless 8ah will be? That thing will probably be pushing a max output of 4 kW.

I don’t know some clowns on YouTube bithching Makita, I just got my drill kit XGT and SDS plus rotary hammer drill and I love it. Most of my tools are Dewalt and Milwaukee but now I’m starting to get more into Makita tools I love the ergonomics and of course the Japanese pedantic quality…

I really like that Makita is sticking to a professional nomenclature. That thing is called whatever it is called, we know what it does, that's why we buy it. We don't need a silly name for everything. Also, I suspect that they will simply renew the entire lineup over time, just as we got the B-Series with LXT. Makita never made a big fuzz about that either. They were just better with that gauge on them and hence they slowly introduced them and phased out the old ones over time.

Awesome vid. Assuming thats what Makita/cell maker did with the interior foils, that makes a lot of sense. Seems obvious in hindsight. Still waiting on a 40v multi-tool, random orbital sander, one-handed recip saw (that 18v 08 is perfect) and the 173 Impact version...

If it is tablets fairplay to Makita for keeping up to the latest technology. I really hope that they release a pouch cell battery that is flatter than the 2.5 to go with a new impact driver like the 18 volt one with the fancy lights🙏. I heard that once tablets batteries get into mass production they will be cheaper as they are more simple to produce and like you said in your demonstration welding on a tab is a weak point in battery construction and in some cases can lead to failure. So we could be getting cheaper more robust batteries.

Great review, you really covered all the details and went above any beyond! This is how you do a YT video, well researched and presented ;)
Makita going in the right direction, this is so much better than pouch cells, compared to milwaukee forge 6ah, more capacity and more power with better safety and quality thanks to cylindrical cells.
