We reviewed the newly updated 2024 BMW X5 to discuss the changes and the V8 and I6 options. While some tech and styling may be questionable, this is one of the brand's best efforts in terms of usability, reliability, and price for a luxury SUV. The Porsche Cayenne, Lexus GX, Audi Q5, Acura MDX Type S, and Genesis QV70 are others to consider.

If you decide to purchase, use the SavageGeese code 'Q1YTB30' for an extra $30 off on E7, E7 Pro, and E7L. For E7 Plus, shown in this video, use code ‘Q1YTB50’ for an extra $50 off. (Bamboo 78''X30'')

Had I invested in Nvidia when you guys first started displaying the name in your intro, I'd be able to afford this car.

"could have been worse" is the greatest praise to a current bmw design

I had a 2019 X5 40i and now have a 2023 X7 M60i. Looked at the Cayenne both times but just could not understand why it cost 40-50k more outside of having to pay the Porsche tax. Finally good to see a review that actually tackles that ridiculous delta instead of pretending both cars are equally priced.

in Mar 2020 I bought a 2020 x5 40i after seeing your video on the 2019. It's been the best car I have bought till date and it's been quite a few cars. the B58 is truly God's engine and paired with that zf 8spd, it's glorious. I've done 74k miles in 4 years and I expect to hit 150k by 2028. I want to push it as far as I can and I believe she can take it all.
It makes no sense buying a Cayenne or a range rover when we have this and the GLE shouldn't even be in this conversation.
great video, as always. cheers

Sweet spot trim is 50e, best of both worlds, Car & Driver achieved 3.9 0-60 test(exact same time they got fromM60), get 100+ MPGe as commuter if you charge at home, for $80K US w/ M Sport package (not including rebate if eligible)

Mark's smile while Jack talked about the B58 was hilarious. Lol.

Let’s be honest here. The ACTUAL only reason why you buy the Cayenne is because your Porsche dealer “needs” you to buy 3-5 cars from them before they allocate you a GT3 you’ll spend 5 years waiting for.

Don't get the V8. The I6 has plenty of power and the V8 engine compartment is so cramped that repairs are more expensive if you plan to own long term.

A beast of an SUV regardless of engine. I own one and it gives me a smile daily after a few years. I have to say I’m shocked the passenger doesn’t get car sick. I forget his name…. You guys are great!

Just bought the 4.0 Xdrive. Gave our 08 X5 to our son with 80, 000 mile. New one drives great and love it. Hope to keep it 15 years.

It is iDrive 8.5 just a more stripped down version. 2023 built BMW i4 also has this. Which means it still has the faster processor of 8.5 and new better layout compared to 8.0, but less gimmicks.

I got 24mpg on a roadtrip in the LCI X6M competition last year going about 85mph on average. I agree with Jack, having some half decent fuel economy so you can get some driving range on your roadtrips is nice to have. Oh and it’s still fast af. Great SUV. Great review.

You guys are so right, I debated a Porsche Cayenne vs BMW X5 in 2015. I went with the X5 50 and loved it, owned it for 8 years before trading it in for a Porsche Macan. The main issue I saw was a similar Cayenne was 22k more than an X5 and was smaller. We have a truck now we use for truck stuff, F150 and the Macan for a drivers car. The X5 was the best all around 2 row suv, miss that V8 of that car. Could not recommend the X5 more.

Rented a 2024 X5 xDrive40i last week for my family vacation. We were impressed, it did a lot of things really well.

Agree 100% with all your comments on the cayenne vs X5 comparison. I had a 17 X5, now drive a 22 cayenne, and recently rented a 23 x5 for a week. Based on my experience, one of the important things you did not mention is, cayenne PCM sucks, Bluetooth connectivity is awful, it does not even come close the any version of iDrive. To me the argument is simple, if you want just the driving experience, go for a cayenne, if you want a vehicle you need to use everyday for life, its x5. I am going back to x5 next year. Thanks for the great video guys.

I drove the I6 and the V8 versions of this car back-to-back, and I really really noticed the extra weight up-front in the V8. It felt significantly more ponderous through the corners, and by contrast the B58 variant felt downright light on its feet. This + the B58's reliability would lead me to pick that option every day of the week. It's also still quick and is significantly cheaper.
