It may seem strange but the trombone is most like the human voice in how its sound is produced, no valves or reeds or strings, but breath, vibrating lips (like vocal cords) and muscle disposition. Rita sings like she plays, like she sings and she sings with astonishing levels of emotional engagement and little affectation never straying far from the real rhythms and music of human speech. Here she IS that young woman hurt in love.
