How to use a Sport Coat.

Today’s topic will serve as a great guide for how to use a Sport Coat.
Sport coats are an ESSENTIAL to all guys. And I mean all guys. Even my younger Moxies in their early 20’s.
They are seriously the best and quickest way to elevate a look instantly, but there are RULES.
• Difference between Sport Coats and a Suit Coat.
1. Suit are more structured meaning they have heavier lining and more shoulder padding.
2. Sport Coats tend to have louder patterns.
3. Sport Coats tend to have metallic buttons, although that’s more on the traditional sports coats.
4. Most sport coats have 1 or 2 buttons, rarely will they have 3 buttons.
5. Sport coats are a bit more relaxed and playful.

• Sport coats are intended for a slightly less formal look to a relaxed look.
1. FIT obviously has to be flattering.
2. Sport Coats are meant to be paired with different colored slacks. So stay away from same color Pants. The difference in color will show.
3. Sport Coats tend to be fun. The louder the pattern, the more subtle the rest of the outfit.
4. Sport Coats are meant for Jeans, Chinos, and Slacks. SUIT Coats are meant to be worn with their suit slacks.
5. Tuck in your Dress Shirt. Even though Sport Coats are for more relaxed outfits, that doesn’t excuse you from looking sloppy. Very few guys can pull off that look. My advice is to tuck your dress shirt.
6. NO Training SNEAKERS. If you are in tech you might get away with it but I think it looks sloppy.

Hi 👋🏻 good video! Just a small friendly correction 🙂 the difference between a sports jacket (aka an odd jacket) and a suit jacket doesn’t really have anything to do with the fabric, lining or buttons. The only real difference is that a suit jacket has a matching pair of pants cut from the exact same cloth. Suits can be formal and casual. I think that the confusion between them is that suits tense to be more formal and therefore in most stores are sold in a formal fabric (worsted wool), padded and with lining (things contributing to its formality).

I mostly have suit jackets that have cool patterns and weaves (glen check, houndstooth, Birdseye and shark skin mostly) and just wear them like sport coats

I'm planing to go to my wife graduation and two weeks florida. I was thinking to wear sports coat with jeans, I'm wondering if i can wear my black Air force 1 sneaker with black jean or light brown shoe? Your advice please?

What is the occasion to wear a sport coat? It is for movies, sport events excluding horse races, a night in town, etc...? Anything but jeans, sweat pants, shirts with labelling, and hoodies.
