The 6 billion dollar mentioned in this video is speculative and might not be the exact figure of the eko Atlantic project...

Looking at this project on Google Maps, one question immediately arises: how are they going to address transport? From what I can tell, the only road that accesses Eko Atlantic is Ahmadu Bello Way, which is only two lanes in either direction and already serves as a ring road for the entire western section of Victoria Island. Every single vehicle going to or from Eko Atlantic would have to use, or at the very least cross, Ahmadu Bello Way. Akin Adesola St. is another alternative, but that's only two lanes as well and it crosses Ahmadu Bello Way in what would surely be a supremely busy intersection.

If we assume a similar population density to Lagos Island and an area of 10 square kilometers, about 240, 000 people would live on the site. A quarter of a million people, using two four-lane roads if they want to go anywhere, and those roads already serve quite large parts of the city as well. There are no arterial roads to make connections to anywhere nearby - the closest is the Lekki-Epe Expy more than a mile away, and the area in the middle is densely populated. Provisions for public transport are minimal. How are they planning to avoid a traffic nightmare?

0:08 It's a $6 billion big project but not the most ambitious real estate development ever undertaken in Africa. Egypt is building a $45 billion new administrative capital, a 7 years project that should be completed in 2022.

Steven Ndukwu well done for the effort, the Eko Atlantic City is not a $6 billion (dollars) project, but it cost them same amount to dredging and reclaim the land. To build the city, it will cost above $50 billion. Dredging work and shore line protection was completed in 2013, while infrastructural work started immediately and most of them were completed in 2016. The first tower building construction started in 2014 and was completed and opened in 2016, construction is expected to peak from 2021, as most investors would have done all the preliminaries, designs, engineering drawings, approvals and procurement.

The current dilapidated infrastructures, in other areas of the state, should be fixed/updated and or renewed initially...create a strong functioning society that has the basic amenities for daily living. The welfare of the masses has to be a top priority first due to its large population. This continuous segregating of the rich from the poor cannot work! History has proven this!!

I cannot emphasize how educative this video is. Thanks

Really nice project. I think as long as Nigerians and Africans overall benefit from the taxes and fees that come from the project its good. Hopefully the project is extended as well down the coast. I would love to see an African developer take on and complete a project like this elsewhere on the continent.

EKO atlantic has been reclaimed for years but less than 10 buildings only constructed. This is only good in rendering but in actuality it is just empty reclaimed land.

I’m glad to see similar changes in other parts of Lagos, not only limited to Eko Atlantic. I don’t want this place as just an enclave instead of a part of the greater metropolitan area

Less than ten new constructions since 2013, maybe investors don't want to be our first defense against the projected climate change-driven disaster along the Atlantic coast

I pray that God grant them the grace to build that project and Nigeria as a whole

They should not forget the innocent lives that they took

How many Nigerian engineers are involved in the construction? How many of you can afford to live there? How will this so called development affect the ordinary Nigerian? Or is it another place the owners of the land will be cleaners and drivers?

Europe, Middle East, East Asia and Southeast Asia reclaimed land as well similar to Eko Atlantic and within 10 years of reclamation they are able to fill the area with huge tall skyscrapers. Eko Atlantic was reclaimed more than 10 years ago and yet only few very low skyscraper get constructed. This shows how very slow the progress in Lagos if there is any progress at all. As long as the government is corrupt and citizens are gullible due to poor education I don't see any future for this project. This is only good in rendering but in actuality it is just an empty land good for press release of what Lagos could have become.

This is what we're building in a country that doesn't have trains or electricity. There's no rail line leading to our largest port. But we're spending billions on real estate for rich people.

Neoliberal capitalism at its best.
