Days 30 - 33

Can you believe that someone has NEVER played Terraria before?! Well, that someone is ME. I am very excited to play the game for the first time and I want you to be there with me! If you've played Terraria, I'd love to get real-time (ok...delayed by one week) advice on how to play, tips and tricks, and helpful hints. Is this a guide? No, it's the exact opposite!

I'm going to discover if Terraria is noob-friendly in 2024, with the help of the YouTube comment section.

I'm sorry, did he say, "The brain of Cthulhu"?

well, that brain fight went about how i anticipated it lmao. that is a prime example of being ready for the fight, and preparing the area ur in. in gonna be plain blunt here, u should have platforms to jump up and down on.

u can fight the brain many times, u can make a summon item (like u can with the eye) with vertebraes and some other shenanigans. bloody spine i believe its called.

cool thing with the brain, is that even when u lose, as long as u kill some eyes, u still get some stuff. tissue samples that drop from that boss, but also the eyes it spawns, can be combined with crimtane bars (that u get form brain + the eye of cthulu) for some cool gear. thats ur, next tier of gear so to say.

if u like guns, u should now now have th arms dealer npc unlocked. ofc he needs a house, but u also need to have at least 1 bullet or gun in ur inventory for him to move in. he sells some nice stuff, ammo included, if u wanna go down a ranger / gun path.

finding that goblin tinkerer would be very good, one of if not the best npc in the game actually.

if u like the yoyo, make a string with some cobweb. it massively helps out when using yoyo's. and if ur lucky and find an underground trader, he may sell another yoyo accessory.

u got a lot of choices and options here tho which is nice. u can build some more housing and infrastructure like a green house, u can go for boss kills, u can look to improve gear, or just go spelunking. the other biomes also offer vastly different loot underground compared to what u have been through. biomes really do give unique weapons or loot tied to them, tho some stuff may start to be meh considering ur weapon arsenal isnt all that bad tbh.

that being said, ur bow is still brown. fix it if u wanna use it xD, just make a crimson one from crimtane ore, that one is rly nice for u atm.

as always, pleasure to watch, fun to "experience" being new again, even tho its not my eyes and brain, i still get to experience it.

Advice from someone who has had multiple blood moons on repeat nights, Block the doors with a single block, this stops Zombies and others from getting in, worst case scenario, use two blocks. Also I would recommend getting more health underground for the Brain (I've always played on Corruption worlds, so I don't know any optimal strategies for the brain, because it's specific to Crimson Worlds)

Reminder for pylons: The vendor NPC must be happy, with a sale modifier of 90% or better. Remember that NPC relationships are not always symmetrical, but only one vendor needs to be happy enough to sell the pylon. The NPC they like (who helps make them happy) does not even need to be a vendor. The "solitude" bonus gets most of the way there, granted by having at most one other NPC within 25 tiles, and at most three more within 120 tiles. Given this, it is enough to place a vendor in a biome they like, or with an NPC they like, while avoiding crowding or any biome or neighbor that they dislike. In a more crowded area, bonuses can be stacked; e.g. an NPC who loves their biome, and at least likes their only close neighbor (or vice versa), can be happy enough even if there are too many NPCs within 120 tiles to get the solitude bonus. In the jungle, placing the Painter and the Dryad together is a great way to start, purchasing the pylon from the painter.

Note that happiness only matters while purchasing a pylon. To use the pylon, two NPCs need to be housed nearby, but neither needs to be the one who sold the pylon, and their happiness is no longer relevant for the Pylon Network.

Unrelated, you're falling behind on armour upgrades. I'd aim for at least the next tier of armour before you try to take on the Brain of Cthulu. It did hurt to watch you leave the items dropped from the hearts in the crimson behind, they're some of the better weapons and accessories you can get at this point in progression.

Finally, as another commenter mentioned, going into the dungeon is a nono. If your depth hits 0 (you enter the underground layer) in the dungeon, the guardian will not stop until you have died and it will one tap you in any equipment you could possibly have at this point. surprisingly, it is significantly more resilient and more damaging than skeletron, the boss you must defeat to disable it.

Decent try u may want to go find heart crystals so u can get up to 400 hp. Definitely recommended making that area near the hearts an arena so dodge better also making spines at the crimson alter it lets you summon the brain so u don't need 3 hearts broken to summon( it only works in crimson biome to summon.

*Edit Lol old man at night is how u fight skeletron if don't beat him and go down the dungeon a guardian will unalive u.

I love my melee but different bosses are easier with range like wall of flesh and beenades vs some melee works fine on others but it's ur call. I lean on Melee and some range lol

Side note knock back is really helpful on the brain second phase cause if keep u can knock him back long enough with ur attacks till does his teleport then comes at u again from farther away position then just rinse and repeat you'll basically not get hit it's in my short of it
