We have a problem that has gone too far. We have now proved that this court should be elected by the people. 4 year terms and then election.

I moved to South Africa for 3 years for grad school (I study Stone Age archaeology; South Africa has fossils). The corruption there was astounding and has broken almost every aspect of the government - see the recent election returns for example. Or the public utilities they literally cannot keep running.

But I’m an American. I’m seeing the same trends there. Politicians centering their own financial gain. Blithe lies. Enriching family and friends. I am still optimistic enough to believe enough of us can ultimately come together and stand against racial hatred or gender discrimination to hold back the tide. But this corruption… this worries me. This is gangrene.
