Great video and as always, thanks for the update ! Looking forward to the 3v3 mode it's pretty exciting, it could really bring something fresh to the table while having our good old blizzard-RTS style that we love.
On the performance issue I think it's a grreat point you bring out there, and probably something devs are aware of. But i'm also worried. As I'vvev said in previous comments, the game/graphical engine is a huge part of the game and a very important one. SC2 has a great engine clearly, that was re-used for "heroes of the storm". But here, redevelopping your own, homemade, cutom engine is ridiculously hard and takes a ton of time and specific skills. They talked about the issue very early in some interviews. If I remember correctly, the chose Unreal Engine for Stormgate and went for some custom stuff to try to adapt it to the RTS style. I sincerly hope they get some Unreal Engine specialists to help them on that issue, maybe the UE team can provide them with some custom made adapatations, branches of their engine. But that will probably cost them a lot (having highly specialized devs like this is not cheap).
It's gonna be necessary I think, even though there are probably ways to improve the existing stuff, and you have to also consider that when it's gonna be 1.0 (and beyound), PC are gonna be a little bit more powerfull overall. That said, we all know how important this is for this kinda game (esports) to be very accessible to most people.

Brood War maps feel a lot bigger than all the maps in Stormgate to be honest, so I'm not sure they can hit that vibe.
It's not necessarily due to literal size, but between unit speed and production speed, you're managing a lot of space that's hard to access, which demands commitment.
This lack of commitment is probably one of the reasons we get so many deathballs, and it's not something that can be addressed until optimization gets expanded on.

Sounds like Dawn of War 3's Power Core mode which I got what Relic was going for with but which people generally absolutely hated. So I am worried that people will hate this mode because it resembles MOBAs without trying to understand the design they are going for.

I think there's one part in this blog post that worries me. "we are aiming for shorter quicker matches..."

I don't think that's a good plan. Especially in a game where you have creeping and 3 tiers of tech to upgrade to. While I do think games like DOTA2 dragging on for 90+ minutes is a bit much. Trying to speed up the 3v3 experience even more than it already is in RTS games is not a good plan IMO.

Yes, you don't want the enemy to be able to play with their food. But that is what a "concede" option is for.

IMO, too much emphasis on Stormgate is put into trying to make action happen faster which IMO runs counter to the idea that they want to bring in new players. Faster != new player friendly.

Take it slow, let things progress nice and easy. And make sure in team modes there is a concede option so a team can end the game early if they feel they can't win or no longer want to continue.

Yes a lot of quality of life improvements be it lobby or replays should finały be implemented so it feels less like alpha version. Ingame chat and things like health bars in replays should really be here. That are relatively smally things that would add much.

With chat though there comes need for some moderation etc so I hope they can deal with it well so to foster community

Yeah it looks like "protect the core" gameplay.
Also hard to triple rush one opponent if all 3 are together i guess.

I played this like 18 years ago. Not sure if it was DOTA 2 or a DOTA spinoff custom mod, but it was basically exactly this proposed game mode except for the disadvantage mechanic. It was a very niche game mode with a lot of toxic players blaming each other, or atleast that was with random players afaik.

I really hope they add a hero shrine or make the command post train heroes so that you can choose the hero after starting the match instead of before like in mobas. That way you can adjust to scouting info and just change your mind on a whim. I also want the hero shrine so that we can have up to 3 heroes per match instead of only locking one in. In WC3 there were different strats based off going 1, 2, or 3 heroes and I think removing that would lose a lot of depth.

Also really hope they add item drops from creeps and a neutral shop on the map as well as being able to build your own shop. Town Portals, healing scrolls, rods of necromancy, lightning orb, boots of speed, invulnerability potion, all the good stuff.

Sounds very Heroes of the Storm inspired which I fully support without any bias 😆
Dota2 and LoL were always quite allergic to adding objectives. You can argue with the Dragon and Baron but that's not the same.

Why not make a variety of map styles and leave it up to the community what maps they want to play on? Like if you look at BAR, they have an absurd number of maps with all kinds of wacky designs but the majority of matches are played on two of them. Give the early access players a lot of choices in the first month or two, then put a small selection of the most popular maps into a ranked pool, cycle maps in and out with each new ranked season. Also, start new ranked players off with the most popular map and let them choose maps to unlock in ranked with more matches played, so you only have to learn to play on one new map at a time, you could have a bigger ranked pool that way without making things hard for new players.

I think the focus should less be on "playing with there food" but that the gameplay must still be fun even if you loose. If a game only is fun if you win than go play coin flip with a rigged coin :P

noticed there was no mention of heroes, are they optional ?

dont stop player from <<playing with there food>>
why limit what players can do? its very bad.
Players can leave game and surrender. The <<food>> doesnt have to suffer, so let us have fun! dang.

I still feel that EA was a terrible idea, at least, on this stage. However, it does shows that the game is very flawed and it is not too late to pull out and rebuilt everything from scratch with all the feedback collected.

Okay! After watching Pineapple Express last night I know what Stormgate reminds me of!

If that Empire Earth 2 shit met that DOTA 2 I had and they had a baby and then meanwhile that Warcraft 3 I had and that super rad Animal Crossings met and had a baby. And by some miracle those two babies met and F#$& this would be the shit they birthed
