It would be cool if we could donate zoo income to conservation or research in exchange for conservation credits or something. It really is more fun to play, when you aren't making way more money than you need... but hard mode isn't as fun because the animals are too hard to keep up with.

near that primate area, you should do chimpanzees on one side and bonobos on the other. i think that would be an interesting because a huge reason why the species split into chimps/bonobos is because they were on separate sides of a river so they evolved with enough slight differences to become different species

Perhaps lower the salaries of the staff as much as you can without making them unhappy before firing them. The zoo is quite sizeable at this stage, so you might find yourself needing those extra staff members again very soon, and you had already paid for them to be trained.
Amazing habitat for the elephants so far - the video you showed of what you're taking inspiration from for the rest of it was super cool, i can't wait to see how it comes out!

I really recommend watching the food costs, a lot of the animals you've selected have high demanding food costs and can hit the bank hard on new zoos. I found it's better to offset there high costs by drawing in a lot of guests with a lot of lower cost animals with stores scattered in between with the high valued animals with high food costs to the back.

Tip: You can lower the salaries of the staff to the minimum that they still be happy. That will help with the money problems!!!

Instead of firing all the staff members, just lower their pay. You have it at the highest it will go, and that adds up quite a bit. I would keep the wages right in the middle, that way you can use up your funds elsewhere, such as on the best quality foods, bigger and better habitats and all the detailing that needs doing around the zoo. It's a game, so wages don't really matter, so long as the employees are still happy.
