I remember the blackouts in the 70’s, I was just a kid then. My dad had a car headlamp bulb on the end of a length of cable attached to the battery of the Austin Maxi to provide light. I got quite good at pushing the car to get it started before school each morning!

This won't just affect heating and lighting, it'll affect the ability to run businesses and make money.

Fill your freezer even just with containers of water to pack it, takes far longer to defrost.

Even a video on the very topic is absolutely insane! We should not even be having blackouts let alone even the discussion ideas of them! All of it is by design none of this is random.

The problems with these blackouts are not so much the inconvenience of having the power off for a few hours its the fact that most people's heating doesn't work without power.

I am spending more time with you than I spend with family, thank you for your service to people who need information explained in a way we can understand it.

Thank you for the heads up on the power cuts.
I am 74 years old, I have heart failure. I live in a one bedroom apartment that is all electric. And is on the first floor therefore I have a flight of stairs to negotiate.
I would be without light, heating and the ability to cook a hot meal.
I remember the 1970s very well. It was a struggle. A Mortgage at 15% interest, a three day working week. A wife and two kids to support. Petrol rationing. I really thought those days had gone.

Always wondered what the N in a box was out of the way of everything on my bill. Thought it stood for Normal usage (as opposed to H for High and L for Low). No idea where I got that idea from, just made perfect sense to me. Thank you 🙂

And yet office blocks in London and across the country keep their lights and aircon on. Using the energy that the public might need. I feel for the elderly and infirm who rely on energy. Indeed how about people that rely on power to keep them alive with medical equipment at home

I have a question. Should black-outs occur (at any level) would there be compensation or relief to the "standing charge" as it is beyond the control of the bill payer?

Thank you very much for this information. I've always believed knowledge is power. And in this case, it's the power not to panic.

No doubt Whitehall will be lit up like a Christmas tree in a power cut period as probably essential service catagory

Thank for taking the time to explain this.

Just visit South Africa. Here we have blackouts (loadshedding) since 2007. SA currently have 8 levels of loadshedding. Level 1 being once a day for 2.5 hours, level 2 twice daily for 2.5 hours. From level 5 one time slot becomes 4 hours, level 6 has two time slots of four hours.

Ultimately level 6 = 8 hours of the day without electricity. Don't think your energy bill will decrease, as usage will still be te same, it's only deferred to different time of the day.

Thank you for doing this video. Your the only one to do this, really appreciate it.

Remember to print the document rather than saving it to your hard drive! Else if you can't turn your computer on you'll have no way of knowing whether there's a power cut...

In the early 70’s you had to look at a notice in the Electricity Board shop window to find out when you were due to be cut off. I remember doing that one evening in Nottingham and being accosted by an elderly person complaining about being cut off while all these cars were driving about “wasting electric with their lights on”.

Criminals will have a field day knowing all the Ring cameras won’t be working as the houses internet router will be off

Thank you for explaining this. Shouldn't surprise me, given the current government, but I was absolutely horrified to discover no plans have been made to protect disabled people.

It is a ploy to relive the british public of even more hard earned cash. As a disabled person on the at risk register with medical equipment at home what measures are they taking to ensure i do not die in their blackout period or to supply my house with power in these periods.
