Your channel is growing for several reasons, but these two are stand-outs: 1) Your research and knowledge is through the roof. 2) You also (even now) respond to comments. Much continued success for the great job you are doing!

I’m glad you’re doing well with your channel and get some income back for all the hard work you invest to produce your informative episodes. Mine started years ago as a video scrapbook of sorts with no particular aspirations. As we head towards the finish line in life, I suppose the main motivation also is to simply leave some stories or reminders of the great bounty of music in hopes that we may inspire others to seek out and enjoy some of the same vast body of work out there that we enjoyed so much for those several decades. I’m glad the basic service is free for those who may not have a ton of money to spend on entertainment and don’t particularly like modern television.
Keep em coming.

I was a teenager throughout the 60's and have a strong affinity for music of the era so I naturally latched onto your channel when first coming across it. Love your content and your approach to covering it. Regards.

I have found that your videos are entertaining and informative....lots of stuff I knew but lots of stuff I I really enjoy the info on music groups such as Beatles and etc....learning how things were produced or composed...as a kid in the 60's era it's amazing how things developed by pure or was it? Some musicians can see well ahead what is happening and others..(such as me).. didn't think about what was going to be tomorrow....anyway it's a great channel and I enjoy seeing a person I can see and understand...keep the good work going and hoping you make a million bucks..!!

Thanks, Mr. Trooper. This has to be something you love to do because, at least at first, the money input versus the time output is hardly a good trade. That said, I always enjoy your material. You never know if and when your channel can explode to bring in vast new revenues. As long as it's fun, DO IT.
P.S. Thanks

Very informative. I have been encouraging my husband to initiate a channel about at least one of his several interests. I will be forwarding this to him. I enjoy your content very much as I suspect we are of a similar age and consequently our memories overlap. And your voice is fabulous! Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2025!

Thank you, very helpful. Before you announced your profits for last year, I glanced at your no. subscribers, &, without any knowledge of these things, took a guess at $10, 000, so, I wasn't far out. Keep up the good work!

First off, just discovered you and I "liked" it and subscribed to your channel based on this video, not just because of this topic but also because you stated your focus as being on 50s-70s guitar-oriented music.

Great information here. I have a few comments to add and a question or two:

Whether to show your face or use your voice.

I have heard elsewhere that personalizing your channel with a face and voice does make a significant difference. Also, my own experience, watching hours and hours of YT videos everyday, is that the vast majority of channels are not produced by beautiful people with velvety voices. The vast majority of creators look and sound like everyday people. Many people dislike the sound of their own voice, especially if they hear a recording played back to them. Chances are very good, however, that other people think it's just fine. And computer-generated voices still sound bad. I often can't listen to them all.

The fact that normal people dominate YT creators suggests to me that everyone should at least consider creating a channel, if they have an interest and/or compelling need. And if they do one, they should strongly consider using their face and voice. IMHO.

A channel called Make Money Matt does a video on the best areas to do a faceless channel.

What subject and name for the channel?

I did hear once that there's a channel called vidiq (there are no doubt competitors) that enables you to find out how much interest there is in a topic (by searches done) as well as how much content coverage there is for it. Such as, oh, there's tremendous interest about toucans but almost no content! Let's do THAT!! Or some such. The monthly subs for it are $17-$99 per month. If I were going to create a channel, I would probably subscribe for the $17 and see how well it could help with the initial question: what topic?

But, as you said, I think personal interest/passion should be heavily factored.

How long to monetize your channel?

"Google's minimum criteria for monetization." True. But what is it, today? It is going to change over time, of course, but what it is today? 10K subscribers. X number of minutes viewed?

Your 2024 income is nice to know but, as a point of reference, what, for example, were your number of subscribers each month (it's 28.7K as I type this; was it 10K at the beginning of the year), and what other factors (viewing times, likes, etc.) contribute to this number?

Short vs. long form?

Your info on the short-term is great. Testing ideas. Promoting the channel. Got it.

But when it comes to long form, what have you learned about desirable lengths? I find I will leap to watch just about anything of interest if its 5 minutes or less, and many things if they are less than 12 minutes. I reserve viewing of videos that are much longer than that for what I consider to be of extreme interest. Rick Beato, for example, does fascinating music videos that are mostly 8-12 minutes and I watch them all. But he also does interviews of fascinating people that can be 50 minutes or an hour or more that I rarely watch, even if I love the musicians, label execs, and others he has on. Then there's the Professor of Rock. He's extremely knowledgeable and the topics are generally spot on for me but his vids are mostly 20-24 minutes, in many cases about one song. I like the ones I listen to, but I don't listen very often. From that personal experience, if I were to create a channel, I would probably aim for ten minutes or less. My wife has an idea for one called "the two-minute 'x'". It's a great idea and name, but she's already got a great, well-paying career, so...

This is a great video. Thanks so much for creating and posting it, and best wishes going forward.
