Singers With the Widest Vocal Ranges (5+ Octaves!)

preview_player
Показать описание
I saw Matthew Dockray's video on bass singers' vocal ranges and thought I should do one of my own but with singers of any voice type (and any with over 5 octaves).
I tried to include only notes that I thought were countable, but what is considered “countable” is debatable. Feel free to ask any questions about why I did/didn’t include a particular note.

Not actually concerned about the authenticity of the recording, it’s just interesting to see the limits of the human voice, it seems like anything outside of a 3 - 4 octave vocal range is really a novelty.

Now do one with only actual singing sections not snippets of people trying to make a deep or high noise. Just because you can growl down low doesn't make that part of your voice useable.

One of my biggest influences is Mike Patton from a variety of bands and musical projects such as Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Dead Cross and others. He is said to have a 6-octave vocal range which he is said to have the widest vocal range of most well-known singers in America. His complete range is said to be a D1 - F#7 (6 octaves, 4 seminotes)

What a cool video! I’m sure there’ll be a lot of people complaining about wether certain notes are countable and such but I guess that’s always the case with these types of videos…
Thank you so much for including me bro! It really means a lot!
Btw. Where did you get Casper’s D6 from?

Dimash hits lower notes, but I guess the videos have copyright. He hit an F#1 as far as I remember, in a song called "drunken concubine". I can't remember of him hitting lower than that.

Huge difference between singing and just making growling or some sound.

Most of these people were just sitting in their homes singing probably just for fun, while Dimash, Mariah and others are actually performing live and they are not just singing, they're moving, dancing, they should stay focused not only on their vocals, but on their stage presence as well. I wouldn't even call most of the people in the video "singers" because what are they even singing? Just hitting the notes isn't singing. No melody, no performance, no feels, no words, not even a song, just notes. And woah - instantly record. I would not be surprised If Dimash's vocal range is actually wider, but he hasn't shown it yet, we'll see in the future. But what I'm trying to say is when you are on stage you are being nervous, you should be concentrated on what you're doing, It's not the same as staying in home hitting ultra notes. No hate towards the creator of the video, you did a good job, I just wanted to point out some differences

0:35 As a bass, seeing THAT in printed music would make my have nightmares! A octave lower than the famous Bb's in Mahler's 2nd and 8th

0:55, as a musician and as a vocalist and as a person who has perfect pitch, I’m telling you, that there were no F#2. The lowest note she hits at that “You and I” video was Bb2. Even if you don’t believe me than listen to that part again - even the harmony doesn’t go to F#2, it stops on Bb2.
But now about her voice in general, on a good day she can go to A2 I think, maybe G#2 or even G2, the thing is, that her voice, over the years, got lower and lower, so her range became more huge over the years. If you listen to her 90s live videos it’s hard for her to hit lower than C#3/C3, even at that 2005 video “You and I” you can see and hear how Bb2 was hard and uncomfortable for her.

how are you getting people with -octaves? the human ear can only pick up as low as 20hertz and that equates to around an E0?

Mariah she has Bb7 in that MTV live and she has a F#8 when she was swimming with a dolphin

Dimash has used growl notes down to F#1, so his range would actually be 6 Octaves +8 semitones.

This video does not capture Geoff's full range, he could definitely go higher and can definitely go lower using subharmonics. If he can hit an f1 in chest, he can for sure hit an f0 in subharmonics

Hey Matteo,

A little bit ago I posted a bunch of videos of me chesting some super low notes while I was sick, down to ~C#1, but I have come to announce that I have broken my chest record again this morning. I don't have a recording of it, but I hit an Ab0 with zero fry whatsoever. I'm not sure which demon possessed me to do such a thing. What's even stranger is that I can't even use subharmonics to get below that, modal or otherwise.

So I guess my "official" range is Ab0 to F5.
