This could also be interpreted as investing in industries/sectors rather than individual companies. Almost like the opposite of Buffetts strategy.

That is an extrapolation, for the last 10 years, this is completely true, since people just started buyed indexes instead of choosing good stocks that generate cashflows. Still, the time will come when this practice will be reviewed, particularly if we have higher interest rates, and cash generating companies will once again outperform indexes. I would say if you don't know what you are doing diversify, if you think you know, diversify, but if you are really experienced and you have been successful on finding value, go for it, because when the time comes, you will outperform.

Where's the fun in that! Sure, buy index funds, but pit yourself against the market by reading investment books and looking for beaten down value stocks.
