"Friendship is Magic" is a composite of several similar (yet alternate) worldlines.
-> In this one the student six did not returned to their homes, while in the special they did it.

An earlier example of the existence of this other worlds is "The 3 Twilights" ( future!Twilight, prota!Twilight & past!Twilight) from "Its about Time" [S2E20]; as there is no such thing as a "closed timeloop" in Equestria (the episode LOOKED like that, but it was not actually the case).

In order to travel back in time, you must also _"open portals to other worlds"_ [ actual words of Starlight Glimmer from episode S7E26, about what she did on the season 5 finale ]; as otherwise you will meet yourself on the second iteration; creating a paradox by NOT having a previous memory of such encounter (paradoxes can never happen because the multiverse is infinite; so you can NEVER return back to your "original" timeline because it is impossible to "target" that destination perfectly).
