You have to carefully with breeders because you want to make sure they are reputable and not just a mill. My family has only ever gotten cats from a shelter they all lived to be 18. If you get an animal from a breeder you will also have to worry about paying to have the animal spayed or neutered if you don't want to deal with them going into heat, marking thier territory or possibly making more strays.

As someone that has always adopted rescues, highly recommend if you are OK with dealing with their trauma.

They almost always come with goodies too :) shelters need to give them away.

I know exactly what you mean, Biboo. Ginger cats have a propensity for cancer in later life, something my family has had to handle over the years. I can only speak for myself but I can say I am proud that you care. All the cats deserve the best life they can have, of course.

I'm glad Biboo did her research. A lot of pet stores are very shady about the animals they sell, and it's a structral problem and not Japan problem. It's simply too difficult to control pet stores when it comes to animal husbandry. I wish the rest of the world catches up with Europe and require licenses and exams for animal ownerships.

Yeah that was the right decision no doubt. Always get your pets from a certified breeder or a shelter if you're an experienced owner.
I respect the intent of people getting a first pet from a shelter in a way but those situations often end up in complications or even tragedy.

No matter what direction she goes to get her John Cat, she's shown the emotional intelligence needed to make the right decisions and be the best cat parent she could be.

That's actually very mature of biboo. Esp with a busy life such as hers. Sad for John Cat though, all pets deserve a loving home and i did hear that JP can be pretty lax in terms of regulation of their sellers. It's why pekora has a fking monkey after all.
