Dare to Own the Dream Program | Celebrating CDBG Week

This video features Angela Smithen, a recipient of the Dare to Own the Dream program, which provides down payment assistance to income-eligible first-time homebuyers.

After hurricanes Irma and Maria destroyed her home in St. Thomas, Angela and her three boys moved to Tampa.

With the help of Solita's House, a housing counseling agency, she navigated the home buying process and qualified for over $100,000 in assistance since her new home is located within the East Tampa Community Redevelopment Area.

Angela's dream of having a place for her family to play in the front and back yard is now a reality. Thanks to federal funding, programs like Dare to Own the Dream continue to provide families like Angela's with a place to call home.
