Backwards compatability would be a great feature to have on the Switch 2. In fact backwards compatability should be an expected and standard feature at this point.

If it wasn’t for
backwards compatibility I wouldn’t have bought a PS5. I never had a PS4 so backwards compatibility was a huge selling point for me.

I’m not usually one to play the “that’s anti-consumer” card but not having backwards compatibility for the purpose of selling more software is pretty freaking anti-consumer. I get that publishers need to make money but they’ve already made money off of existing games. Make new games. Looking at “old” games as a source of new income on new hardware is incredibly anti-consumer.

From Nintendo's perspective, having backwards compatibility would lead to them not experiencing the same drop of in game sales towards the end of the nintendo switches life span, since people will now that they can play those new games on their next console too.

6:47 It’s easier for Red Dead Redemption to be on the Switch if you put a PS4 version out instead of PS5. They just wanted to port it and they killed three birds with one stone. The price is too high though.

Of course they would say that. Backwards compatibility kills their $50-for-a-13-year-old-game business model

This is same reason I’ve held off digital games after having a Wii u all my purchases locked to the system that’s even worse then Sony charging 10 for upgrade

My backlog is such that if the Switch 2 is not backwards compatible, I will not be buying one.

PC has been doing just fine with the best backwards compatibility ever.

If they are not switching from cartridges to something completely different backwards compatibility should exist. New console without backwards compatibility is like new DVD player which can't read old DVDs.

Ridiculous.
It's not "bad for business" when you consider the current userbase of the Switch will reject the Switch 2 out of disgust if it's not backwards compatible.
No one will tolerate losing their purchases when moving to new hardware anymore.

I have a Switch collection of over 200 games, no backwards compatibility, I'm out, just buy another original switch, and call it a day!

The personal computer is a perfect example. It's had backwards compatibility for over twenty years with little to no issues.

If Nintendo doesn’t make the switch 2 backwards compatible I hope the system crashes and burns harder than the wiiU. Switch era made nintendo’s head too big

I love seeing the angry snobs arguing for no back-compat in the comments. They're confusing. "No, it's better if they give you a worse product, listen to me it's true"

It'll be bad for business if it's NOT backwards compatible.

These companies DON'T want it because they want to keep selling you the same damn games on a different system and charge you an outrageous price. Why make an old game work when they can resell it to you.. Again

Rockstar right now I'm sure is despising the back-combat of Red Dead Redemption on Xbox. Now the big publisher is getting backlash for the asinine $50 they want to charge.

Backwards compatible is essential for a switch 2. Not only is it convenient, but not having it is really a slap in the face to those who spent so much money supporting and enjoying these games they played so much... just for them not to be playable. It makes sense to not have some of the niche games there, but fans should have this ability. Reward those who want it, convenient for anyone else. Heck, maybe it could boost some old sales of switch games if they don't get released to switch 2? Will be interesting to see!
