Furnace - Blower Fan | Repair and Replace

In this episode of Repair and Replace, Vance shows how to replace the blower motor and blower wheel in a gas furnace. The blower fan pushes air over the heat exchanger and circulates it around your home. If the blower motor fails then the furnace might cycle on and off and won't function properly. If the blower wheel is noisy or grinds when it spins then its best to replace it.

I CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!! You saved me a pretty penny. (First timer here) The fan was rubbing against the metal & all I had to do was loosen the axel & center the fan To stop rubbing. Oh man...my wife is happy now. Lol

Super helpful. Furnace company wanted $900 for the 1hp motor plus install. I got a motor online. You just saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you.

**Caution** The capacitor stores an electrical charge, which is used to help start the motor. This might cause a shock in some cases. 2:36 Before handling the capacitor, use an insulated screwdriver and touch across both terminals to safely discharge the capacitor (be careful not to touch the blade of the screwdriver or terminals).

Also be careful when pushing in the wire connectors into the circuit board. 4:35 Too much pressure can cause the board to flex and might crack the board. Its best to place your fingers behind when pushing in the connectors.

Thank you so much!! You are right on! I am now half way, I.e, I could take out the motor assembly and came down from hot attics. Next step is to find the replacement parts and replace it and put all back. Looking forward for have my AC unit working😊👍

That was an awesome video I would have never known that there was just two screws to pull the fan and the fan motor out

Might want to warn folks that capacitors are exactly what they say and contain a fairly large amount of stored up power to kick start the blower motor. Should be discharged by using a insulated screwdriver to touch across both terminals to discharge it so they dont get a nasty shock if they touch the terminals during removal. And another point is when pulling and pushing the wire connectors onto the silicone circuit board you should not allow the board to take the pressure on its own that is an easy way to crack a circuit board. Try to get your fingers in behind it to not allow it to flex, some of those connectors are on pretty tight and require a fair amount of pressure to remove and re install the wiring.

Excellent video ~ I wish every "how-to" video was as thorough as yours! Can you provide an estimate of what it might cost for a repairman to perform the task and replace the parts depicted in this video? And if the problem is a bad capacitor, what might that cost to replace? If it matters, this is for a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 that was installed 20 years ago. We heard some odd sounds when it started up today and then noticed a burning smell from the floor vents. The air was not blowing from the vents. I removed the front panel and everything looks fine and the furnace will ignite - it just doesn't blow the hot air through the vents.

What do you need to measure on the wheel to know what size you need?

my blower wheel is out of balance and causing furnace to shake when running. This has also caused motor to shake as well. Tech recommends full replacement of furnace w/ x13 motor = $3, 500 or just replacing Blower Motor + Wheel for $1, 300. Question - do you think I need full replacement because of age of furnace is 21 years or just replace blower motor + wheel? Thanks for any feedback.

My furnace makes a noise while starting up. It's a loud hum that goes away as the fan sounds faster. Now I noticed a slight rattle sound as it's spinning. I'm confident, with the help of your videos that i can fix it, but I'm not certain if it's the fan or blower wheel. Is there a way to tell?

Help, my friends furnace fan works with heat but not Ac is that the relay. I took it out but it doesn't rattle so I'm not sure. I heard there's like two speeds higher speed for AC. Is that ok not rattling.

Is this why my york furnace seems to be making this unusual noise when turn on and is still even working for ac? Also capacitor needs replacing and can a handyman do this job or a heat guy?

what would the problem be if the blower will not shut off unless I shut off the power to the furnace at the beaker or cut all power?
